They made Chris Hoy a sir for becoming the most successful olympian. What they going to do for Bradley Wiggans?
Yeah, Kenny for football, his Hillsborough work and his and his wife's cancer charity fully deserve recognition in the shape of a knighthood, Mo's achievement stands out in his sport and should also be recognised with a knighthood.
the doping worries are a consideration. Will almost certainly get a gong though they all do these days
Even as a red fan, I cannot see how Kenny could be in front of Farah. What Mo Farah has done was simply incredible and will probably not happen again in many generations. The greatest British sportsman, better than Coe, Redgrave, Pinsent, Holmes, Hoy, or any British sports person ever. If he doesn't get a knighthood when a dodgy party donor can get one by giving £500k (what Rooney can earn in 2 weeks) it will be a huge scandal and will show the establishment in a different light.
Mo farah stands for everything a propadandist would love An immigrant whos gone and done well A muslim whos grateful for the chances hes got. And so forth and so on... If you think that way at a time when extremism and frankly racism on the other side are on the rise then hes a great poster boy to show off. I think he plain deserves it of course but theres just that doubt about the coach and that. Its a cynical excerise of course. Farahs achievement stands up with foy or redgrave imo so why not.
there is also the worry how he went from being good to being nigh on unbeatable after going and training in (i think it was Kenya) Africa he joined Salazar after that, I'm well into cycling so i'm fairly cynical about doping but the stuff that raises concerns in athletics (and many other sports) are a) appearing occasionally and smashing everyone else b) sudden jumps in performance But on performance = Sir Mo he is nailed on
Yeah those are certainly red flags. This woman who smashed wr by 30 seconds or something ridiculous is so clearly a doper i hope they get her on something
Cycling is at the top of the list of sports susceptible to doping. We all know about L Armstrong's dominance. We can't blame the French and Germans for expressing surprise and doubt. We probably would have done the same. If we can give Hoy and Wiggins knighthoods then Farah should be nailed on.
Farah is a legend, amazing to have achieved back to back double golds, did it in our home Olympics, and always comes across as a nice, down to earth guy who says and acts the right way with the press. He is a great advert for British athletics, a good role model for young British athletes and overall one of my favourite people in sports over the last handful of years. Plus he was good on league of there own and does the mobot
problem Mo has there is stuff in his background which raise questions but then Wiggo got one though he was in the Cofidis team when the french police searched their rooms after one of their riders tested positive. On Wiggins though their has never really been much innuendo as even when he won the TDF it was seen more as a win for team Sky than him individually in the cycling world. personally i suspect all top athletes have at some point but maybe tats because i like drugs
By the way, finishing second ahead of China is a fantastic achievement for our athletes. It really is incredible when you look at the differing sizes of the nations and where China have been in recent olympics. To have finished 4th, 3rd and then 2nd in the last three olympics and win so many medals, particularly golds, across such a variety of different sports is really a top achievement. I believe we won golds in a larger variety of sports than any other nation including the US in Rio? My personal favourite moments were watching Farah, the way he runs is a joy to watch, his sprint finish is quality. And also seeing Murray retain the gold, it was a really good final to watch. Adams in he boxing was good as well, not necessarily because of the fight but because she seems like such a nice person, I was really pleased for her retaining the gold! Those responsible for our successes in the olympics should be given a go at sorting out our football setup!
