Anyone? Derek Forster. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Forster started his footballing career during his time at Manor Park School, in the Newcastle Schools Youth Team.[1] From here, he went on to make five appearances for England schools. In 1964 he signed for Sunderland as a youth apprentice, where he would become an understoody of record appearance holder Jimmy Montgomery.[1] While still in the youth side of the club, Forster was called up to the first team due to an injury to Montgomery, and started a game against Leicester City on 22 August 1964.[2] At 15 years 185 days old, he became the First Division's youngest ever player, as well as Sunderland's.[1]Forster signed his professional contract at the club in February 1966.[1] He made just 18 league appearances in his Sunderland career, spanning from 1964 to 1972, with Montgomery staying the first choice for the team until 1977.[1] At 5 foot 9 inches, he was significantly shorter than most goalkeepers in the top flight.
In a word (or two) . . . . not very He used to have 1 shot per season, which usually went out for a throw-in He had one of the best songs ever, though
If I remember correctly the club sacked him for dodgy cup final tickets dealing before the 73 cup final.
I always thought Dick was one of the most under-rated players in that team. And, given our RB position today, I'd kill to have one like him now. Used available space very well.

I was taken by my dad from Hull for my 10th birthday present to see one of my childhood favourites Len Shackleton. Seeing Stanley M was a bonus. Another player favourite was Raich Cater who was playing for Hull City that season as player manager.
