Football fans moan, always have always will. If you can't deal with that, you are watching the wrong sport. A lot of the most positive, long winded, "rational" stuff posted is, in all honestly, just as much garbage as a one line moan.

Don't take it so seriously. Nothing said on here is going to hurt the club or effect peformances or results one tiny bit. Just say what you think.

I'm waiting until the window closes before I make my my feelings clear on this Summer. Hopefully I'll be relatively happy come a week wednesday.

Though I do stand by that we can't keep doing this high turnover of players every Summer. It's not sustainable imo.

It didn't. It said "Stop with the negative waves", this being a quote from Oddball in the film "Kelly's Heroes", and I would guess was intended as a lighthearted plea to be positive. Please read people's posts before criticising!

Until he plays regularly there will always be a debate because there are no facts to draw a conclusion one way or the other. There is, however, facts available to show that he is actually faster over sprints than before his injury. That was reported on the web site months ago.

Personally I think it is only the preseason form of Long and Redmond that is holding him back on the bench at the minute. Would not be surprised at all to see him emerge as a regular starter over the next two months.

You mean selling our best players that we knew last January were leaving anyway? Not sure why people focus on those and shrug their shoulders at the inspired signings of Redmond and Hojbjerg. And we all seem to be forgetting that Forster, Van Dyke, Tadic, JWP, Davis and Long have all signed new contracts!

Puel certainly came in as a lower profile manager to others that were linked and I must admit, I can't bear to listen to his pre match and post match interviews. But he looks a different character on the touch line. For Thierry Henry thinks he's a good appointment I'm certainly not going to write him off yet.

Well maybe there's the fact that he's barely had a kick in 2 years that is leading to people drawing conclusions?

As for sprint times in training, easier to do in a training environment when you know there's no risk of a Shawcross/Watson clattering you. Compared to a highly paced, highly competetive PL match.

I remember reading an article around the time of the injury that said alot of the time it's the mental effect of these injuries that holds players back. Worry about putting that extra 10% in due to the thought of injury always being in back of mind.

Unfortunately this is what I think has happenee with Jay.

I think the 'negativity' is exaggerated. We've given improved contracts to VVD, Bertrand, Forster. Along with (especially) Fonte they must be hoping we show the necessary ambition literally going forward, and boosting of goal threat as they endeavor to keep the goals out. Pundits have been saying we look like a midtable outfit, well our defence is certainly not midtable at all, we need be building on this great foundation and opportunity.

But apart from Palace buying Benteke (which was eventually 'funded' by the sale of Bolaise) and WH with Ayew, none of the rank and file have splashed the aniticipated cash as of yet. Everything has been unexpectedly shrewd.

Also didn't help him that he got injured again straight after. They changed his running style a little to take the pressure of his knees. Then he ends up with a foot injury...

Like I have said before, I think Jay is finished as a Prem striker. His pace and direct style was what made Jay so lethal. But with the injury he got it is bound to effect that. I still hope he proves me wrong.

FLT completely acknowledge your points previously and I often enjoy engaging in debate with you (I think you're more optimistic than me, but I'd call it idealistic :p)

Anyway, I remember a comment from you following Long's (I think) extension saying that we've had a fantastic window - do you stand by that? Be interested to find out if you said that expecting the momentum to continue or if you'll be happy if the window shuts now with what we have?

I don't see how anyone could be happy with what we have now.

Though I'm almost certain we'll see another 2.

If he gets any slower, perhaps he can become a referee.

I wouldn't be delighted if the window shuts now.... luckily, it doesn't shut now; it shuts in over a week :) I can stay positive.

    Let's review it on 1st September. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Yep, fair. I think we should be in for an exciting last week of the window anyway so hopefully I can join you in the positive pavilion.

Am wondering if the prices of players will actually rise during the closing week as teams get increasingly more eager (or desperate - depending on your positivity or negativity) to get signings in before the season reaches full swing.

I understand why Saints have concerns over Rodriguez moving forward, and I also understand why Jay would want first team football and West Brom would like a player like him. But, Saints will have to bring in two more forwards (Striker/winger) to simply just have the numbers to cope with the amount of football we have this season. Injuries and suspensions will come, and we need attacking bodies in there. (Plus I do feel we are lacking a bit of quality up front now).
