Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge wins men’s marathon. Order restored after the horror show in last night's 1500m. How on earth can a guy win the Olympic Gold with a time of 3.50? Elite club runners can do that. To avoid that fiasco, the IOC needs to impose a time limit of 3.35 for the first runner to cross the line in an Olympic or World Championship 1500m for men final, and if it not achieved then declare the race null and void. All those in last night's final were capable of the time I have set, so it was disgraceful seeing them trot the first 800m.

It is. Starts at 12:00 PM UK time.

Ok so thats actually bang on Monday, but in Brazil it'll still be Sunday.

Last of the events today, Men's Marathon is always on the last day, as is the Men's Mountain Bike, the Heavyweight Boxing always ends the Boxing, the Volleyball is on the last day because its a huge sport in Brazil and the Men's Basketball is usually the event that closes the sports.
Men's Marathon medals are handed out at the closing ceremony as it tradition.

Oh dear Judges at their work...how two of them gave that one anyone other than Joyce...

Joe is going to have to knock him out or he'll not be awarded this fight.

there was CLEARLY one judge birbed there.

the other tow had it close at least going either way o none point but one judge gets to bascially decide the medal?

In the diving and gymnastics they recognised this long ago and dismiss highest and lowest judges

At this point i think they need either 7 judges at boxing with a clear point pr hit system back or a computer based system with live scoring so all can see if its rigged.

That one judge had over a 10 point wing and thats just obviously a guy set up.

also i wonder has anyone probed betting patterns in the far east on these matches.

There must have been killings made... has to be.

You can always expect a few suspect decisions at the Olympics but the boxing has been a joke like I said a while ago on here. How on earth they managed to get agreement on 'no appeals' this time is amazing as well. Also noticeable the lack of European judges - you'd expect the judges to come mostly from the best boxing nations surely not Uzbekistan, China and Sri Lanka which were the most common judges used.

if they want to do anything then:

    1. need a lot more judges and the extreme scored are dropped

    2. need appeals system

    3. need a serious look at betting

I don't agree on the judges par se. Uzbekistan have a lot of amateur boxing going as does cuba and china decided to give it a go as well for bejing.

Sri lanka would seem VERY odd though.

I actually think it's a lack of knowledge of judging officials. Not just boxing but with the boxing:

We all understand that quality can out match quantity of punches thrown. It just seemed to me that the judges didn't seem to count clean body shots or punches getting through the guard. It was like if the punch hit the opponents glove at all it was seen as an unclean punch and discounted.

The Joyce fight was a good example. Yes the French guy probably had cleaner headshots but he never hurt Joyce whereas on two occasions Joyce wobbled the French guy with good clean body shot combinations.

Yes he threw a lot of punches onto the gloves and shoulders and these shouldn't be counted but there were a lot that went straight through the guard and make clean contact with the head.

Saw this in a lot of fights. It was almost as if the judges were still doing the punch button system only on a card.

It's clear they've attempted to bring olympic boxing closer to pro style but it seems the judges haven't kept up.

Laugh is Joyce isn't a good boxer and really shouldn't think of going pro....but then the French guy wasn't any better.

i dunno boys - only seen the highlights of the joyce fight - but he got caught by some good shots from the french, heavier than his own (who seems a total dick btw) seemed like joyce couldn't/didn't land enough in the end and joshua being all butt hurt about it for him after made him look like a tool and extra-sour ... like i say only saw highlights pack

And had a record number of boxers at this event which makes the number of times they were involved in judging automatically look suspect on it's own. Cuba is a mad boxing nation, always has been and a good reason for them to be heavily represented in the judging [ie they know what they're talking about] but they weren't. Where were the Irish, British, American. Argentinian, Puerto Rican ..... judges.

You're right about the scoring system, either do a diving/skating type thing or bring back the recorded number of punches landed.

So what was everyone's favourite bit? Mine was probably Farah falling over and still going on to win the 10,000m, that encompassed for me what a 'winner' is all about.
