what a wonderful morning to wake up to, London medal total has been beaten, something that no nation has ever achieved before. 2nd in the medal table basically guaranteed ahead of a nation with a 7th of the worlds population. Amazing, SPOTY going to be ****ing impossible this year, Trott, Kenny, Farah, Whitlock, Peaty, Laugher, Dujardin, Jones, Skelton, Adams all have great stories, mutli medals and/or repeat victories following London, on top of that Froome medalled and won the TDF again, Cav's had an amazing year with the tour and a sliver, and Murray with Wimbledon and Gold (and potentially the US Open too) really is so hard to pick. For team of the year i'd like to see them say **** it and give it to the whole of Team GB, every one of them who turned up, medal or not.
Probably worth mentioning, we're only one gold ahead of China, so second isn't certain yet... Also, Team GB got Team of the Year in 2012, so it is a given.
We medals a few of these events but Football , Golf , Tennis and the squeaky shoe thing have no place in the olympics . Events like the modern Pentathlon are what the olympics are about , yet we will never remember those athletes .... When it comes to our stinking footballers it sticks in my throat to see them there getting all theatrical on the floor like Olga Corbett.
Looki Would be an amazing achievement to beat China. A few years ago, everyone thought they would start challenging USA for No 1 spot. Looking at the last day events, China are in the final of the Womens volleyball. They also have a finalist in the taekwando. I don't know if they have any contenders in the remaining athletics. I think we have only have one realistic chance of another gold (Joe Joyce)? That last second defeat in the taekwando final could still prove to be very costly
on a side if you watched the men's 4x100m medal ceremony the lass holding the tray of medals n funny plastic thing was at exact eye level with Bolts willy bolt !!! She kept on glancing over it was pretty funny ,
Beating China doesn't hugely bother me. 20 years ago at Atlanta, we got ONE Gold medal. One. The way we've improved in the 2 decades since is nothing short of remarkable.
Shame Sport Brasil didn't push any #beinspired ideas for the local kids in the favellas - there are more military on the roads during the marathon than what should be called sports fans - Brasil , great looking place but the people are a bit ****
We should beat China, they are in 3 more events and aren't expected to win Gold in any of them. We've really only got the Boxing left now. We should finish second.
Well yeah the predictors on Friday has us one gold ahead of China (25) , what's changed is the unpredicted golds for Skelton and Heath , and theChinese have also gone one better (the 6ft teakwando lass).
I'm not into the marathon but as its the olympics ,I've got it on n cheering for Rupp , if looking up now n then counts as cheering on
I would like to hope we will use this same thread for the Paralympic Games. Because IMHO we should view the 2 games as being on the same level with one just bring an extension of the other. Although there is major problems with these games it's not the fault of the paralympian athletes. TBH I always hold those with physical and mental difficulties who are willing to work hard to beat them as more inspiring than the normal Olympians. I hope to god it isn't too disappointing for them.
