I am going to the Boro game so looking forward to seeing the "new and improved" East Stand. I am not a Bates knocker however, I can't understand the logic behind spending £7 million improving a stadium that we don't even own?? Surely improving the squad and reaching the premiership should have been the first priority?? I think Leeds have an excellent team but a couple more additions (left back and a loan striker) wouldn't hurt!! I can't believe we are that hard up for money when Bates is splashing the cash on the bloody stadium - he could have bought Thorp Arch back with that money. I know he wasn't chairman then but I have a feeling Bates bought Leeds from Bates!! Anyway looking forward to 3 points against the Saints
Good point, I believe we have an agreement with the Council that we pay back the same amount that they bought it for. There were probably 6 or 7 times last season that we sold out and could have seated quite a few more. Does anyone know how much extra seating the east stand will give us. Obviously we have capacity of 39,402, though our biggest gate in recent years was in 2001 v Newcastle where we seated 40,287 (I guess everyone had to 'budge up)!!!!! We have the 12th biggest stadium in the Country, it would be nice if we could add another 10,000 seats to make it a 50,000 all seater. I am devastated that we have not invested any of the Delph / Schmeichel money especially when we came so close last season, lets hope Bates knows what he is doing. M.O.T
I once heard that Bates wouldn't open up the whole East Stand because of extra costs from the police but presumably that's nothing compared to the extra ticket sales and the great atmosphere that would bring!! I guess the max capacity will be significantly reduced with the new Exec Boxes!!
Our capacity was reduced at some point since 2001; back then the capacity was quoted at something like 40,500 (and still is by some sources). I think Bates' plan was to keep the capacity the same by adding more seats to the back of the South Stand where boxes have been removed from, though I don't think that will have taken effect next season. Worst case scenario is that we can only get 36-37,000 at whichever one or two matches sell out. I'm fully in agreement with the original poster's point and think this East Stand plan has stood in the way of player investment which would have secured our future. I highly recommend this article on the matter which was written by the Beaten Generation.
So less seating, more corporate boxes and lack of signings. Im confused, are the boxes mega expensive ???
I am devastated that we have not invested any of the Delph / Schmeichel money especially when we came so close last season, lets hope Bates knows what he is doing. Bates knows exactly what he is doing. he is building up the stadium with your dosh and will buy it back from the council just before selling the club for a whacking great profit. and running away with all the money
Good point, I believe we have an agreement with the Council that we pay back the same amount that they bought it for. The council don't own Elland Road. one of you is telling porkies then
It's owned by the Teak Trading Company, based on the Carribean isle of Nevis, coincidentally the same place where our former owners the Forward Sports Fund were based.
looks like we are both going down anyways what a 42 karat plonker this is http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/leedsunited/fb_news.php?storyid=13417 It's owned by the Teak Trading Company, to be honest i knew that but doubted myself when a Leeds fan stated otherwise
how you getting on inserting images ? i see theyve changed the link inserter so image files dont work no more good job iv found a different way of doing them
But are we not still planning to go ahead with adding the extra tier onto the North Stand and extending it round to the East, bringing the capacity up to 50,000, in time for the 2015 RWC?
No, the Council told us to bugger off so we don't have the money. Thank god (would have ruined the Kop).
I'm pretty sure Harvey said the plans would still go ahead. And everyone was banging on about how ER needed redoing, extra capacity etc. but hate it now it's happening!
As far as I know, it was after the England World Cup bid's rejection that Harvey said it would still go ahead, under the assumption that the council would subsidize it, but we were then rejected by them too so don't have the money to go ahead with it. That's just my understanding.
Excellent team are you for real? Lonergan, Parker, Connolly, OBrien, Clayton, Paynter, Rachubka, Bessone lool
Shame you named a 'keeper wanted by no less than 5 PL teams, our player of pre-season and possibly our most consistant performer in that list. But then again none of them are called Jose Nunezino.
