In the same way some on here would get knocked out , with the way they talk to others, if they weren't hiding behind the computer .

    Free to say it

I crept out once silently and resisted the urge to shout fire. Barely scorched my jeans....

Nah, you only get your posts removed and threads closed if someone even slightly mentions politics or religion.

The mods don't care about the third rule, which is don't abuse other posters. Everyone breaks it, even the mods, but the 'No politics, no religion' rule is sacred.

I'll probably get this post removed for mentioning the word 'sacred'.

He's essentially said "now I'm rich, somewhat famous and can be heavily punished , I regret what I said"

    Amazing apology

No hes moved into the wider world. Away from his old possibly 'macho' lifestyle and found more to life. Indeed like earning good money etc. Folk can change.

Some lass on Twitter said he should be sacked and banned from football forever. Person responded by asking if she'd get sacked from her job for daft things she said online four years ago. Her response was 'I'm not famous so it's not a valid comparison'.

Apparently, we should hold celebrities to a higher moral standard than our own because reasons.

    It's all about intent.

Free speech is not a free for all. It comes with responsibility.

So a quick little 2 min apology on Twitter and that should be the end of it? we should just take his word for it I guess :D easy work.

If only it was that easy for other people. Most people would be fired and no apology would change that.

How can you prove someone's intentions though? If he came out and made a personal statement saying 'sorry, lads, it was just a joke, didn't intend to offend people haha' people would call bullshit and say he's lying to save face.

If time passing and "people changing" was enough to drop everything then the police should just close all unresolved criminal cases that are older than a year.

I know this isn't a crime in the same vein as raping someone but the logic you are suggesting would apply the same way.

A lot of the guys who maybe raped a girl when they were 19 and got away with it, are probably changed men , married with kids etc... Does that mean they shouldn't be punished ?

Well if some folk wish to remain offended by words for ever and ever... Accept an apology and if he doesnt mention queers again then perhaps he was sincere

I'm not being a hater for calling him a twat for his comments. They were very twattish things to day, but good for him on apologising.

    However...

If a white footballer had said that black people should burn and die - would the consensus be "well that's that then"?

I doubt it. So when a straight person makes those comments about gay people, is there a difference?

It's a matter for Burnley and the FA now, anyway.

Whoever said gay or black or whatever having to apologise and knowing most folk now think of you as tw.. Might be punishment sufficient.
