That's probably the best description. No doubt it was a pen, but he didn't make a challenge really. "Lazy half hearted attempt" is about right. I've seen a zillion worse challenges by defenders for penalties.
He regularly gets done for pace and he's often caught out of position. And I wouldn't consider Antonio Valencia world class.
Jeez man,read the bloody script he's this weeks scapegoat! (probably be Clasie next week). Target has done ok overall.
Valencia is fast though. Having Mata and Valencia attacking you, when you have no one infront of you helping out, isn't a good thing.
He isn't the first player to bring down a full back on a surging run into the box and he certainly won't be the last.
Well he wasn't to blame for either goal but hasn't contributed to our attack. His crossing is woeful and he looks bereft of ideas in the final 1/3. He's not helped out much but still.
He's been isolated most of the game. He's defended ok and offered quite a bit going forward. No not man of the match but he's done nothing that terrible he deserves singling out for stick.
