I get that but the fact remains that you loan a player out to either see if he can cut it at the level you want by exposing them to game time at a different level or because they are currently surplus to requirements given limited squad numbers. Neither of those things are the case here. It can only be about recovery from injury so why not just play him here (in the first team by the way Fats)? He's either recovered or he hasn't. Loaning him out won't change that.

Mine was Gaston. I always said he'd make it. Now, I hope he doesn't prove me right at St Mary's in December!!

That does make sense Bovril. The only thing I'd say though is that to really test a player coming back from games is the intensity of full games. Now if he is finding his "form" and match "fitness" then he might not get in the team if Long, Tadic, Austin or Redmond are keeping him out. Him getting 15 or 20 minutes every game won't test him out properly. With this in mind, I think a loan or a run of Under 23 games would be good for him and us. If not that, a 2 month loan.

That's true but surely a loan to a PL side will be for a full season? I'm not up on the rules but I thought that was one of them.

I don't know either. I wouldn't be upset if it was to a Championship side. It is still competitive and for Jay it is surely about three things:

    1. How is the injury and his body?
    2. Match fitness and regular 70-90 minutes
    3. Confidence

    Brighton, Derby, maybe?

Well remembered! Unfortunately I live in a hamlet between Nottingham and Derby, which offers great walks and lovely scenery, but absolutely rubbish broadband. I get 1Mbit/s if i am lucky and its definitely not Virgin Media as they don't go anywhere near :(

Fair enough. But that's still 1 bad spell out of 6 compared to moses 3 out of 3.

That's assuming we agree that he and bad spells. I don't think he did. Just because teams didn't sign him, doesn't mean he was bad.

Simple this. You don't think he's worth a try. I do. Nothing major.

Yep, that's fair enough. Just having a discussion about it as you do on a forum. Never thought there was anything major!

And he outfought someone or other to a lost ball which resulted in a chance.

I do wonder whether the guys who have seen him every day in training for the past year might just know more than the fans who have seen him on the pitch for about twenty minutes.

I love Jay, I really hope he's still got it and the best way to see is for him to get minutes. If that can't be with us, I don't see why a loan should be out of the question. I think what's more likely is he'll be used in the Europa league and if he's got it, he'll be slowly eased back into the first team. I genuinely think he could be our top scorer this season, there's my outside bet.

He will make it, I think he will do well this year, as we continue to bemoan the lack of a number10

He might not have that stiff competition from what I've seen so far. (Nb I do realise we've only played 2 games).

Yes, 19 that first PL season. Including the hat-trick against Saints.

The risk with sending J-Rod on loan is that we lose control over his training. We have great facilities and I would assume more/better trainers than a Championship side, and because we make the lineups we can make sure he doesn't play too often or not enough.

I'm not averse to sending him on loan, with the right team it could be just what he needs. But we will have to be very careful about where we send him.
