Thinks it's worth a discussion, because it will have a massive effect on all clubs, Prem or Football League

Loan Players ... loans may only be signed during the transfer windows, no more loan window ... only emergency loans may be added, e.g. shortage of 'keepers due to injuries ... it's 5 loan players allowed in the matchday squad at any one time

    some info

    1. A player registered on a standard loan may continue to play non-first team football for his parent club during the term of his loan period. This allows that player to go back and play Under-21 or Reserve Team football for his parent club, particularly in the situation where the player is no longer getting first team football with the loaning club. However, much like the youth loan variant worked, it also allows clubs to view how their player is developing during a quiet midweek period.

    2. Clubs will be permitted to sign a goalkeeper on a seven day 'emergency loan' basis if they do not have a fit and available senior goalkeeper on their books that has made five starting appearances in first team football. In the past this rule has been strictly enforced and the League have generally asked clubs to provide evidence from an independent doctor that their existing player(s) are not fit to play.

    3. Clubs will be able to recall a goalkeeper at 24 hours notice from a loan period at another club if they are unable to field two fit goalkeepers in their 18 man matchday squad. This is therefore something for a loaning club to be aware of, in that they may still lose their goalkeeper, and of course could result in a chain reaction if that club then loses their only available goalkeeper.

Keith Curle (Carlisle Manager) on the new loan system

With changes to the system meaning that players can now only be signed on half or full season deals, he said: “You have to ask whether or not these changes will hamper the progression of younger players at Premier League and Championship clubs because clubs at our level will not be in a position to gamble.

“In the past we could take a player on a youth loan, or for the short-term, knowing if it didn’t work out then the player could go back. Now, if you sign a player on a half season loan they have got to be right.

“We’ve been doing our due diligence since Christmas because of that and we’re in a position where if we bring someone in on loan we’ll know a good bit about him. That’s important because we can’t afford to have passengers.

“There are some stand-out players I know we won’t be able to get next season because of how they’ve played with us. We’ve put them on the radar and they’ll be looked at now as having played league football. That could take them to the next level up, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”

I'd like to see the loan system scrapped altogether

Get your squad of 25 or whatever it is at start of season and that's your lot

If there's a major injury crisis use the kids

It'll **** Chelski up if nothing else

Scrap the system and limit squad size in the PL more of the players will have to then filter through to ply their trade in the lower divisions.
