Redmond and Hojbjerg may be "youngsters" but they have a lot of potential and talent, one of them even played for Bayern Munich a few times. That's how Saints operate, they don't overpay for players that are too old or don't fit the club, and vice versa.

Well he got 19 goals in the league a few years back.
I went to villa park a few times with my best mate (a villa fan) and saw Benteke at his best. He is easily better than Pelle IMO (and I love Graziano)!
We will see! I think he will look like a bargain by the season end

We still need to establish ourselves as a Top 8 team and constants in the Europa League first. CL can/will have to wait for a while, and most likely will with the Top 7 or so being restored to it's natural order this season.

 

Despite my general disappointment with matters I remain unconvinced the board and owner want to make money out of saints for themselves (not suggesting u meant that) .
I believe the whole direction of the club is based on the best interests of the team to succeed.

I think this window has been awful though. The watford match seemed very flat to me and I would suggest this has a lot to do with it.

I was just highlighting the finishing. Think Pelle scored a greater variety of goals and was a little more clinical.
Benteke has age on his side to improve that. I think he will do well at Palace, probably not well enough to be considered a bargain, but the way prices are going, you never know.

 

Would depend on the goals thereafter. If we aimed to clear all the debts with the intention of spending big next season (when, presumably, the new contracts offered would allow us to hold on to all of our major players) it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

 

Good signing for palace but 32m is a bit much IMO.

Fair play to Palace. Should be a great signing for them. Yes the price is a bit steep, but then they benefitted from Everton trying to show off to the world in over paying them for Bolasie. If you pretty much just consider it a straight swap - and remember that they already have Zaha, Puncheon and Townsend, but no real striker - they I would say that Palace are substantially better placed now than there were one week ago. Serious top ten threat now.

 

Has Benny said 'yes' to the move yet? Might not fancy it.

I don't know about that. If we were planning a rebuild and targeting 5 years from now, I don't think we would have handed out so many extensions.

I would argue that we haven't brought in enough players either for the first team or prospects, so if it ends like this it would be a disappointing window no matter how you look at it.

But there's still time to go. And I hope we will bring in at least 2 more, and that will also give us a better idea of what the club's plans are.

 

Careful what you wish for. Those who think we should just spend big because we have got the money need to remind themselves of our last 2 record transfers....

Personally I would much rather we spend modestly on players not many have really heard of and prove to be gems even if they only stay for 2 or 3 years (e.g. Mane, Hojbjerg, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Pelle, Toby, etc....)

 

Oy....not so fast to get rid of Hodge-podge. He's still here last time I looked.

 

Not quite Fats. I seem to recall him doing so in some small tournament in '86 and recall wishing he hadn't.

Getting out jumped by a midget clearly still pisses me off...

 

I think you have forgotten Jay Rodriguez and Gaston Ramirez between those two!
