It's a thread started by BBC about Newcastle and we're discussing his opinion of Benitez. if you don't like it don't open the thread. Your continued need to have a moan about me is pathetic.
Yes that's correct. I did right him off and as I don't think their fans will take to his ultra defensive, caution first brand of football. I did not say he was a terrible appointment. I feel this is a real step forward for us, this is the first time I can remember when you misquoted me - which has happened a lot - but then you realised this and ammended it.
As I've said many, many times - he ALWAYS replies to me. You'd think for someone who complains about the petty repetitive arguments we have that he'd learn to just not reply.
Where did I misquote you? You wrote him off as their manager. Thus you thought it was a bad appointment for them. As was mentioned just last page, a number of us will be interested in 3 months to see where they're sitting and whether he is the manager to take them there, to judge whether he really was a bad appointment for them. My comment about you thinking he was a bad manager in the context of the Championship still stands, as you thinking he would be a bad appointment for them suggests you think he would be a bad manager for them in the league they are playing in.
I guess I keep hoping you are prepared to have a rational and sensible discussion. In fairness, I don't think either of us has said anything stupid or ridiculous in this thread - and we're discussing the very topic of this thread. Quill just enjoys the chance to jump up and down and have a go at people.
They decided to keep him in it though, and made huge overtures to keep him. Unless you're suggesting you wrote him off as a PL manager for Newcastle - where he very nearly kept them up and would have had he been there a few weeks earlier - but think he will be a success in the Championship?
I don't recall that I've said at any stage that they won't get promoted this season. I think it would be tantamount to a miracle if they didn't.
So I'm not sure what the point of this thread is then? You say in the OP that Geordies have 'sussed him out' and that this league is all about 'pace, power and attacking'. Are you saying that despite Benitez being a defensive manager in a league all about attacking, it would take a miracle for them not to be promoted? Sounds like you rate Benitez pretty highly then.
The point of the thread is precisely what you just said - that they've 'sussed him out' as being a defensive manager. i even said I didn't go looking for this btw, I was looking for comments about Diame and stumbled upon them.
You didn't answer my question? If you think he's been 'found out' as a defensive manager in a league that requires an attacking manager, but that he will still get them promoted, then he is a good manager for Newcastle, no?
No, in my opinion he's not a good manager for Newcastle. Not sure why you're pushing me on this or that there's some ambiguity, I couldn't have been clearer. I think Steve Evans would've got this Newcastle squad promoted, i wouldn't think that he'd be a good manager for them either. I think we're done here to be honest.
Ok. Well if you think he'll get them promoted regardless, I guess it'll be interesting to see where they are in 18 months then. I think he'll be tremendous for them and really establish them in the mid-to-top-half of the PL where they belong.
