Took the two terrible grandaughters to West Hoe Park this afternoon. It was quite packed up there which is not surprising as it was quite a lovely day. They ran me ragged for several hours before we met up with the rest of their tribe for meal in the pub. I am absolutely knackered now. So much so I've had to get her indoors to open a bottle of lager for me. I'm probably going to suffer tomorrow and I'm getting far too old for all this chasing them about.
I was thinking of signing up for Facebook and thought maybe I should have a posting practice first to see if I would fit in on there. How does this sound for a facebook post:- I painted a fence today and then watched it drying. Had my tea. What do you reckon then folks? It is true and I haven't just made that up.
Two questions. 1.....Was it a cup of tea.....or was it tea as in a meal at teatime. 2.....Did you paint just your side or both sides.....and how could you watch both sides drying at the same time.....if one side was your neighbours was that painted a different colour. PS.....Another question..........do we care anyway.
I never realised it was that complicated Plym. It was my neighbour's fence and I only painted one side and it was a different colour to the bit facing him. When I said I had my tea it was food so I meant the old fashioned "tea" as in evening meal. I don't think I'll bother joining up if it's that hard. Seriously BC as much as I'd enjoy being your virtual friend I don't think I could bring myself to join facebook. One of my grandaughters, the now 16 year old, was sitting in my frontroom recently with her phone in hand like they do and every few seconds it went bing bong and she did something. Now a little while before she was bemoaning the fact she was bored and had nothing to do. I asked her what the bing bong thing was all about and she said it was her "friends" on facebook posting messages to her and she was replying. I suggested she might like to actually go out and meet up with these friends in real time and "hang out". Maybe she would'nt be bored then. She said "huh???". I would guess that was a bit too radical an idea.
I wouldn't advise FB to anyone Sensible, far too female if you ask me, not that I'm a member. I think I'm safe saying that here aren't I? Now Twitter, that's a manly, intelligent social medium and useful for following PAFC too.
Ha ha , I use face book a lot....but only use Twatter to keep up with the cricket, each to their own I suppose.
I have never had or never will have a FB account.. I see people glued to their phones all day on that.. Yes it is a Female dominated site i guess your right. I have a twitter account for the business but never use it.. i suppose i should do.. This is enough social media on 606 for me
The difference being that I don't believe everything I read on facebook. The good thing about it is that it makes me less guilty when I can't be bothered to socialise with family and friends in person-at least through Fb I can pretend to be vaguely interested in what they are up to. Other than that it is mainly for people who just want to show off.
Yesterday we had the dubious pleasure of having a traveller community turn up mob handed and park 10 caravans on the park outside our house. There is a childrens play area in the far corner of the park and they proceeded to drive up and down the length of the park to drop their kids off for a swing and slide before repeating the gesture later to pick them up again. Today myself and Mrs were walking across the park on our way home and one drove past in a van shouting out of the window at me that he was picking the kids up. As if I was interested but still he felt the need to tell me. I suggested he should regain the use of his legs and walk there. Can believe it but he called me a miserable old bastard very loudly. I mean where does he get off calling me old? No doubt it will cost the Council a few grand in fees etc. to sort it all out again and then another few grand to clean up after they have. Having sorted it the travellers will move to another free site and start it all over again. I wouldn't mind them being there so much if they didn't cause a tip to be created by dumping all their unwanted anywhere they feel like and being a bit less gobby to the locals who actually live there. Think we might be in for a week of watching.
Just for once a plaudit for the Council who have got rid very quickly. Apparently when me and her were away earlier this year another bunch of travellers tried it on and the Council got a court order and moved them on again. The court order was still valid and they enforced it within 24 hours. A lorry load of rubbish was picked up after they had gone and they were only there 3 days. Large pile of human S**t also left on the park. If only they behaved like human beings then people wouldn't dislike having them around so much. Anyway, disaster over.
It looks like your Travellers have been mentioned on page 9 of todays Daily Telegraph (18th). Tory MP Gary Streeter has compared travellers in his constituency to Ghenghis Kahn and that they should not be classed as a vulnerable ethnic minority. The MP spoke out after a group of travellers set up camp in a popular park in Plymouth.....the local council has now evicted them from Trefusis Park.....the key to tackling this perennial problem is to remove travellers like these from the 'vulnerable ethnic minority' status, he said. "They are as vulnerable as Ghenghis Khan, most of them are as ethnic as I am, all have permanent homes elsewhere in the UK. I assume sensible this was your lot ?.......quite a big article with a photo of Gary Streeter as well.
Hurray we're famous at last...... I don't know about homes elsewhere in the Country but he is definately right about the ethnic thing. This bunch were definately English. I know that because even the 11 year old could swear perfectly in English although using something with more than 4 letters might have been found difficult. Still, they've been sorted for now and all credit to PCC this time.
Well No2 son passed his A levels and is off to Reading UNI in September and No 1 son is paying us a visit this weekend prior to his wedding in a couple of weeks. I think alcohol may be involved at some point. Very proud of them both and only another 3 years of paying accommodation fees for No 2 and I will be free of them financially!
Congratulations to both your lads lyndhurst. I have to tell you that your will never be free financially. There is no such thing with kids believe me. I'm not sorry to fork out if I'm honest but don't tell them that. It actually feels quite good to be able to help out now and again. In my life nobody but nobody has given me and the other half anything for free. Whatever we have we have gotten for ourselves. But making life that bit easier for the offspring is ok.
I second all that above......I'd be rich if i got a £1 for every hour of baby sitting and child minding that Mrs Plym and I have done since OFF LOADING THE CHILDREN.
My kids education cost enough but nobody else in my family or wife's family have ever done Uni and got a degree so it was a pleasure to back that. When I was working I used to call them my Spanish Villa and swimming pool I never had. I won't even mention their kids.............
I did Open University after I was 60.....by then I could afford it......and my son-in-law took a Paramedic Degree about ten yrs back paid by the London Ambulance Service......the first one that they did.
