Dave Brailsford of Sky was on the radio this morning. He said the other nations should take a look at themselves. World Championships in the same year as the Olympics and all the other teams peaked for that championship. GB cyclists etc have been geared to peak at one championship and the nett result is what we're seeing.
Its the type of sport where a parent can actually participate with their kids, got to be a great thing. I see so many families out cycling now, Mum and Dad getting left behind as the little ones hammer the pedals emulating whoever they imagine themselves to be.
You have to hope that people continue to play the lottery. I don't know what the weekly take is now they've changed the format, more people seem to be playing the Euro perhaps which would be an adverse thing. Maybe there ought to be a Sport lottery ticket like the Health lottery or whatever it is. Then you'd know where the money was going if you support the financing of our athletes,
The way the British teams train is geared to make us peak every 4 years. If drugs were involved, which they obviously aren't, why would these athletes only be being hugely successful at one tournament? The increase in the number of vigorous drug testing since what Lance Armstrong did pretty much proves there's no doping by our track cyclists.
On some levels Brazil have ****ed these games up. This wasn't as issue 4 years ago IIRC. I do wonder what exactly would happen if we were to throw in another cheeky bid for 2032 with how well London 2012 went on most levels.
It all would depend on who else bid for that Olympics too. Beijing have managed to get the 2022 Winter Olympics, so it is possible to get two games within a couple of decades of each other.
Neither does Beijing. It doesn't necessarily have to be London either, you could easily have it elsewhere in the country. Birmingham was a bid in 1992, and Manchester also was in 1996 and 2000.
I know, I just said that. You might want to go read up on where the Winter Olympics have been hosted, a lot of them are unusual places you wouldn't expect.
Do you think the wives of the grandees of the Olympic movement would deign to stay in Birmingham or Manchester?
Bejing is damn cold in the winter. The Region has rather high mountains. What makes you think that anywhere here could stage a winter olympics. The only way way could get another Olypics in our lifetime would be by default.
Don't know, could see all four of those winning it. Don't be surprised if LA wins it, the US usually seems to have a games every couple of decades, and this one would be 28 years after Atlanta. In saying that though, Paris last held it in 1924. I personally think Budapest will win it.
The thing with LA is that they already have the majority of the needed stadia and facilities, transport system, hotels etc.. might make them favourites..
