You are probably right, though frankly those that do, don't really understand football and have never played it to a reasonable level. Teams need a Meyler type player, he just does his job. You saw it Saturday, and they highlighted on match of the day, Drinkwater was getting frustrated because both Clucas and Meyler were cutting out the space he wanted to pass into.

It's a pity the search function doesn't work on here anymore or we could name and shame all the people on this forum who've called the player clueless. Clueless opinions more like.

Good point about playing the game, I always reckon those who have played a lot have as good an opinion or most likely better than the statto nerds, it's a bit like pilots putting in air-time

He got the Meyler bit right then - Meyler's colour blind - he can't tell the difference between black and amber stripes and any other colour - totally at fault for Leicesters goal with his abysmal lazy pass into the middle - problem is he does it over and over and over again

Reports in Spain that Real Madrid bid £30m for Sam which triggered this offer of a new contract. He's apparently now on 80k per week.

Just realised he signed a 3-year deal last year, so this was only really a 1-year extension? Not as exciting as when I first saw it - had assumed he'd originally signed on a 2-year deal.

I think it was more about putting him on Premier League terms, than it was about the length of the deal.

Fair enough. Would like to see us push the boat out and give Robertson a 5-year deal or something like that. Most other clubs seem to be signing most players to 4-5 year deals to lock them down, but we still seem to be worried about committing to players long term which just leaves us exposed every few years to players being picked off.

Dawson, Hernandez, Kuciak, Lenihan, Livermore, Luer, Maguire, Maloney, Robertson and Snodgrass are all out of contract at the end of the season. A couple have additional year options, but several of those should be getting new deals this year.

And that's exactly what I mean. We always seem to have heaps coming out of contract at any particular time. Huddlestone commented on it last year that it's odd that we let contracts run down as much as we do, as it really leaves us exposed to players like Quinn turning around and rejecting new deals and walking for free.

Hernandez, Robertson and (I think) Maguire all have options in our favour for another year, so that's them sorted - for one more year - but I'd be looking at Hernandez, Robertson and Maguire and offering them 4 or 5-year deals to lock them down. Chuck relegation clauses in if they want assurances that they can leave if neccessary, but we seem to tie everyone to 2 or 3-year deals (I think the above three are the first time I've seen us offer 4-year contracts of some sort in recent memory) which just leaves us exposed to large chunks of the list entering the last year of their deals too often.
