This whole thing started back on post #18 with enigma and goes from there . I just took the whole " So who cares about the resale value " as the teetering spot for the arguement . The Richie Rich club fans like to sit around and be egotistical about money .Both Manchester teams have an average 80,000,000 net spend per season ,each ,over the past 5 seasons . Swansea have had had a net GAIN of 3,000,000 per season over those 5 seasons . And we've averaged 10th place in the table those 5 seasons . When you can spend a 100,000 a season on players and they don't work out , it's easy to cut them loose and buy more and champion the who cares about resale value when your a Richie Rich club (fan )
To be fair, it's not always about the re-sale. You guys have bought llorente to help you guys go further up the league, that guy has 0 re sale value
We didn't pay that much for him though and we will get our money's worth . Look at the big picture , 5 years in the Premier and we have a net gain of 3,000,000 a season and averaged 10 th place . My whole point here Is the Top 4 or 5 teams can spend to there hearts content without worry of failed players and wasted money because there's a ton of money left where that money came from . We make 3,000,000 a year to this point in the Premier and can barely keep our head above water . There are two leagues in the Premier , the Haves and the haven'ts . The haves say who cares about resale , the haven'ts say ...we do .
Arsenal are always top 4 and Wenger is concerned about resale values. Personally I think Arsenal and Arsene cheat their fans. The club makes a fortune and charges the highest ticket prices in the PL which has helped fill the coffers to a point where £100million in transfer fees is very doable. But they won't spend it so why not cut the ticket prices and share the wealth in another way?
The one big thing I respect about Arsenal and Wenger is they have a financial conscience , that's just my opinion . They run a quality business .
They are a very well run club but I think it's harsh on the fans to charge the highest prices in the league, boast about having loads of money in the bank and then refuse to spend it on the squad to help the club compete for major titles. I understand why some Gooners are so frustrated with Wenger and the owners.
I think you like to find reasons to get upset about anything to do with the big clubs... even when (as in this case) there's nothing to get upset about. You seem to be going off at a tangent. I appreciate you took offence at the sentence "so who gives a **** about resale value" but once you read it you became tunnel visioned without looking at the wider point. That is, that Arsenal's main factor when buying a player should NOT be the player's resale value. The last sentence in your post has absolutely nothing to do with anything I've said. I've not said a club should take a flippant approach to buying players like you seem to be implying. I've not said spunk money and if it doesn't work out, **** it, spunk some more, there's more of where that came from. I wasn't championing anything. That's just you making up your own argument. All I've said, and I'll repeat it again. That if Arsenal can afford to buy a player for X amount, and that player IMPROVES their chances of winning silverware, then they should do it. BTW why do people think that Wenger has some financial conscience? What, just because he tries to buy players on the cheap? You do realise that everytime he sells a player on a high resale - Van Persie to United for £26m, Fabregas to Barca for £30m, Nasri to City for £25m, Adebayor to City for £25m going all the way back to Overmars to Barca for £35m and Anelka to RM for £30m he IS fuelling the very thing you are complaining about. You need to look at the bigger picture fella. Wenger's as complicit as anyone. Financial conscience my arse ... he's a bean counter mate, that's all.
