Ferriby have won 3-2 against the gobshites of Guiseley, their first win at the top level of the conference. Former City player Ryan Kendall put them 1-0 up, before another former Tiger in Danny Emerton made it 2-0. Guiseley brought it back to 2-2, before yet another ex-City lad, Simon Russell, scored a freak winner when a clearance rebounded off him and ended up in the net. Attendance? 432. Big crowd.
The last time I saw them play at the EVS they were proper big heads (it was the season they knocked Ferriby out in the playoffs) and were gobbing off something chronic about how Ferriby were Sunday League at best and shouldn't be bothering for promotion because the players are **** etc. I mean, yeah, but you don't say it out loud.
Great result for the Villagers - hope they can muster enough points to stay up in what will be a tough season for them
Lived in Guiseley for a while in my younger days - used to sneak in for free back in the day, (as a teenager it never occurred to me I was robbing a hard-pressed Tier 6/7 team of money they might need). They were also once voted as having the best bar in non-league football, (about 20-odd years ago).
When you consider the population of North Ferriby we would have to get crowds of over 40K to match that level of support.
Been to their first matches following their last two promotions (2013? and this year), plus to City's pre-season game. They've lost a few players from last year and need their newcomers to settle in, but think they will just about survive. Need more support from people, good team to support when City not playing at home or if not going to away matches - try them out.
As a village team they're hardly likely to threaten City, it'd be nice to see a few more through the gates, just to watch them, no support required.
