It's exactly the point. Why bring on a Centre Back who has never played Centre Midfield in his entire footballing career on in place of a CDM?

 

But cant he play both?

 

If that's the case I stand corrected.

 

Statistics say he's never played there in his life but some sources say he can play there despite this.

He occasionally played centre mid when he was at Nantes but has, apparently, always been considered to be more comfortable at centre back

 

To clarify my point without reference to any facts,( my rule is never let them spoil a good argument anyway ), the two positions CD and CDM are very similar and it should not be beyond a pro. footballer to play either position especially in an emergency which imo. it was.

You need completely different attributes for either position. Would you be comfortable with Cattermole playing centre back?

Thanks for that info much appreciated, it would seem then, that he is not a specialist but has played there before, he has also played as a right back recently so he is not just a one position player and I thought he would play some part against City, but obviously Big Dave thought not to do this.

 

I'm sure it was 8m. So for 7 million, which is nowt these days, you expect versatile players who can adequately cover different positions in the team?
