The flag pinching was ****ing disgusting.
****s are trying to make out it wasn't clear you couldn't take them home.
I went into a michael kors shop in Milan last year... It wasn't clear then if you cold just walk out with stuff or not
    What did I do?
Go to Istanbul and buy wor lass a fake for £10 three months later.
But I didn't pinch it..... In Milan* or Istanbul.

*Fredor- Milan is in Italy and hosts the last supper..

Some of our fans on Twtter are going way OTT about the football.
    There are 44 games left.
    132 points.
    We have a new team.
.... And can only get better.

    Couple of questions.

How does nobody notice 80 flags being stolen?

Which is dying a bigger death, NUFC or or this board? <laugh>

Lets put this farcical Europe thing to bed

What do you think is the most likely

No 1 Newcastle not loosing another game this season

    OR

No 2 The sequence of events that first , allowed Newcastle to participate from such a lowly position in the league, and the decisions made afterwards to allow them to win it

My vote would on the rules of probability would have to be for No1

Was there any information given about leaving the flags behind? I didn't receive a flag and I don't know who the privileged 500 were but as much as I heard about 500 flags being given out in the run up to the game, I didn't hear anything whatsoever about how they would be distributed or that they were to be left behind.

Another point to make on this. They raised £5000 to buy 500 flags? OK. What happened to the rest of the money? Those flimsy pieces of nylon should not be costing £10 each.

Apparently there was indeed a bit of confusion about whether fans should take them home or not and bring them back for the next game. Some will have been pinched I feel, but apparently not all. The organiser used Twitter to set the flag thing up and not everyone uses twitter.
I may have got my facts wrong there with my original comment.

We will loose all remaining games and get relegated. Selling our best players in the process.

Just like our own fanbase, and pretty much all fanbases, I think plenty of yours do go in for a bit of worship. I know its an uncomfortable truth for those in your fanbase who like to get on their "just look at those daft newcastle fans" perch, but its pretty much a "fact" as Rafa would say <cheers>. Just the way some folk are. Amusing for the rest of us. Saying that I criticise no man for loving their team and getting a bit delusional, all part of the fun. Probably a whole lot more enjoyable than my pragmatic approach anyway.

Not sure who the guy is but on listening I think they probably helped Sam out the door to be honest with some serious cringe.

Funnily enough I'd just posted an 'answer' on the Sunderland board, which might explain what I meant.

In 40 years I've never seen such hysteria over a manager of Sunderland as the Mags have for Benitez.

He came in and, with a few weeks left, had Newcastle above Sunderland with an easy match against relegated & rotten Villa to wrap things up.

Villa, it has to be said, had lost a dozen games on the bounce and had recently conceded an average of 3 goals a game.

Newcastle set up with 6 defensive players and only managed 3 shots, failed to win and with the failure to beat Norwich or Sunderland went down.

So Benitez failed miserably, took them down and now the lunatics are wearing merchandise with his smug face plastered on.

They seem to have a different mentality regarding managers up there.

Is it just Newcastle who have to have Messiahs, King Kevs and King Rafas ........ have Sunderland ever gone this mad?

Fine lines isn't it though as the end of season table showed. Context is pretty important. Sam just scraped through having had a transfer window and extended period of time to turn it around. He probably had a sub 30% win ratio, lower than many of the previous saviours (O'Neill, Poyet) who probably didn't get such grand backing in a window and were eventually wanted out by sections of the support. Benitez had 10 games with a side he was unable to alter, one which to all who had watched had all but given up. Both hero-worshipped by sections of the support from each team for differing reasons. One for saving the club from relegation and giving a bit of hope that things could be better, the other for simply getting a team full of well paid professionals to actually try.

Its the contradiction of opposing fans which makes me smile. On one hand sections of support (or some just like a big old generalisation of all) we are branded deluded for allegedly having wild expectations beyond our capability. On the other we are branded daft for praising a manager who has delivered nothing but a tiny bit of hope in an otherwise bleak decade of performance (bar the odd departure like the 5th place season). One kind of makes a mockery of the other and paints it for what it really is - a sad desire to hate on other fans and create facts out of fantasy. I mean you can understand it from Sunderland fans to a certain extent, many are hard wired to just hate Newcastle United and rivalry/tribalism has always been a part of football. Not sure what the media and other fans excuse is.

I think the key is that the regular cry was that the McClaren had a team full of quality but Benitez was the man to get them playing well.

It was said he'd give the players confidence, tighten the defence and grind out results.

He failed to beat Sunderland, Villa & Norwich which was fatal and probably no better than McClaren would've done.

But all that's irrelevant, I just don't get the hero worship for someone who failed to do what he claimed he'd do and relegated the club.

As I say all clubs have misplaced hero worship including Sunderland. The number of times their fans have worshipped a manager over the last few years for saving them from relegation, only to turn on him the following year I've lost count. I don't get that kind of impatience or how you can go from hero worship to hatred in the course of 6 months. I do understand however that is not limited to Sunderland and is just football in general now.

With Benitez some don't go in for all out hero worship but can appreciate when a club is making progress without fantastic results. Particularly after years of watching one patsy after another just meandering along allowing the club hierarchy to not bother having a go, or even attempting to connect with the support. I think most fans are happy with Benitez because he genuinely seems to give a **** about the club rather than just saying he does. To be honest its a low bar to rise above as it should be the minimum. However its fully understandable when it hasn't been deemed necessary for 10yrs.
