Not about Stoke I know, but I just thought I post a thread asking for people's favourite artists/bands. Here's mine (apologies if I have repeated myself in this list): The Beach Boys Amy Winehouse Biffy Clyro Blur The Libertines The Clash Eric Clapton The Fratellis Gorillaz Green Day Jimi Hendrix Joni Mitchell Jose Gonzalez Morrissey The Jam John Lennon The Stone Roses Joy Division Kaiser Chiefs The Killers Klaxons Madness Manic Street Preachers New Order Nirvana Oasis The Pigeon Detectives Pink Floyd Pixies Public Enemy Queen R.E.M. The Rolling Stones The Sex Pistols Stereophonics The Stone Roses The Strokes U2 The Verve ELVIS PRESLEY Paul Weller The Velvet Underground The Cure Editors David Bowie Arctic Monkeys The Beatles Bloc Party Fleetwood Mac Foo Fighters Jeff Buckley The Smiths Kings Of Leon The Last Shadow Puppets Muse Radiohead The Courteeners Paul McCartney George Harrison Led Zeppelin
I put in 'bold' my favourites! What a selection! Nice on mate, some cracking bands. Radiohead just a little too depressing even for me! But talented band. Any reason why Elvis in caps?
I copied and pasted it from my Facebook page, it must be in capitals on there. Nought wrong with depressing music Jub
Ah right I thought it seemed a very long list! Well no, I agree, usually the depressing stuff is always the best, and I suppose Nirvana did do a song titled; I Hate Myself and I Want To Die, which obviously isn't the most cheeriest of tracks. Favourite song at the moment (not from that modern rubbish though): Greenday - Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
Yeh that's a good song. The most depressing music, from what i've heard is Joy Division, mind you it's pretty awesome as well, probably my favourite album is by Joy Division and that was called Closer. This is my favourite line from a Joy Division song: "Mother I tried please believe me, I'm doing the best that I can. I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through, I'm ashamed of the person I am."
Just to be stereotypical, I'm loving the Dubliners at the moment Also, a quality song that never gets played outside of Ireland: http://www.myspace.com/thestunningmyspace/music/songs/Brewing-Up-A-Storm-27461389
They were a late 70's early 80's band. Post-punk was their genre I guess. The lead singer committed suicide in 1980 and the band broke off and became New Order, the band that did the World In Motion World Cup song in 1990 Love Will Tear Us Apart is probably their most famous song, it's a classic. Here's their wiki page just for some more info on them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_Division
I guarantee you've heard of at least one of their songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHYOXyy1ToI edit: Sarge got in there first
Just been playing Love Will Tear Us Apart, jeeez! Of course I remember them! My old man has an album of there's. "If you didn't know them, you'd think they were a bright, catchy, fun band 'joy' and all that, but there not - let's face it you couldn't imagine them singing Agadoo, can you!"
Just looked up where they got the name for their band from and i've copied and pasted this from wiki: Kippumjo, translated variously as "Pleasure Brigade" or "Joy Division", a collective of females maintained by the head of state of North Korea for the purpose of providing pleasure and entertainment to officials
Sarge, How interesting! And unusual! 'Women' providing 'entertainment' ey? Well it could of been worse, they could of called themselves Brothel Division!
Ian Brown Stone Roses The Smiths Arctic Monkeys Last Shadow Puppets The Coral Blur Oasis Editors Joy Divison Paul Weller The Jam George Harrison The Kinks Paul McCartney The Beatles The Hives John Lennon The Libertines Reverend and the Makers Babyshambles Dirty Pretty Things The Courteeners The Cure The Strokes The Charlatans Inspiral Carpets
Some great stuff boys, I could create a massive list but will just say a few that have had the biggest influence on me. First love no nonsense straight ahead driving hard rock without clever lyrics ;-) Deep Purple Led Zep Budgie (remember them? Welsh rockers used to blitz the Victoria Hall on a regular basis) Thin Lizzy The Beatles The Who Hendrix Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green days) The band I play in covers a wide range of stuff from The Stones/Bowie through Lenny Kravitz to The Kings of Leon/The Strokes. Also like to hear live classical music and swing/jazz (my Dad's fault!)
