I'd hope we'd be allowed to be very, very disappointed about it though. I'd also add that with those things you've written, I'm not sure how people can blame the Board (not you, but some are).

 

But the club can't offer those things Schad said will attract Fonte, so why or how can you be angry at the club? If it is ok for you to accept he wants to end his career "in the top flight" why isn't it ok if the club do too. This is a contradiction.

 

I just wish we had a specific Fonte thread...

It isn't a contradiction at all. Think you misunderstood what I meant or perhaps I wasn't clear. I accept the fact that he may *want* to leave, but I would still hate to see him leave and think he should be kept regardless. I believe the board should take the same approach, they shouldn't be pissed off that he wants to take the risk and go to United, but they should firmly say no to his wishes.

However you still have said you will be angry with the club and not Fonte. I don't understand this as the club don't want him to leave. Fonte is the one wanting to leave, so this is where my angst will lie.

Forget the contradiction part then, I am just commenting that I find it strange that you say you have the negative feeling (be that anger/blame or whatever) toward the club and not Fonte. To me that doesn't seem fair. If the club came out and were actively trying to sell Fonte the I'd understand. It's like blaming the victim of an accident and standing by the agitator of the accident.

I accept that the Board now have a decision to make. They can refuse the bid, however that then comes with potential repercussions and gambles on Fonte's reaction and effect on the team. The Board haven't created this situation, Fonte has.

I'm not asking this aggressively, I just find it a very odd way of looking at things.

Ive reoly cipied a few fintes in my time Fats, but I dont shout about it

 

This is such an important season for us with group stage Europa all lined up....we need stability and that is what Fonte always gives. I am aware that we would look to replace him by a bringing in a younger player as early as next season (to gain experience from Fonte) which means it seems super-mean to stand in his way....well tough cheese....about time Saints was put first. Love you really, Jose....but we are in transition (yet again) and we need you.

My negative feeling would come solely from the fact that I think keeping Fonte would be more beneficial to the team than selling him (unless for a big offer of course). I see your point, but my point of view comes from the fact that the board have the deciding say on whatever happens. So if Fonte does leave then the board will have been the ones who ultimately let it happen.

Although we could well keep him and it back fire, and then I'd be wrong! Wouldn't be the first time but that's my thinking at present.

 

My bad! Got slightly confused then with the notifications.

 

I still think this transfer window will have the best value towards the end. Foresee the need for squads to trim down/players seeking first team foodball far outweighing the panic buying we've seen in recent years and definitely think there could be some good value in doing business late, especially for young 'squad' players with big upside.


Would love to get one of our preferred targets in starting positions (wide attacking player and centre back if JF does go) and still think we will


in addition...if Puel suddenly realises that Isgrove is not good enough and depth is needed in certain positions, then a cut price deal for a Gnabry, Moses, Atsu, Van Ginkel or Makovic type could certainly pay off. Good landing spots for them and they have the potential, with us, to reach the next level
