I'm getting irritated by the guards on my train constantly informing me that, "we will shortly be arriving to Basingstoke (or somesuch hellhole)", when this announcement is being made as we are slowing to a halt adjacent to the platform. One, we are actually arriving, no 'shortly' about it. If you want to tell us then tell us when we're three minutes away. Two, we arrive 'at', not 'to' a destination.
And whilst I'm on it, I'm also irritated by shop assistants that say stupid things like "Can I help?" or "Who's next?" when they're serving a succession of people that are waiting patiently in a lengthy queue. It's pretty bleedin' obvious who's next and if they can't help they shouldn't be standing behind the muddy-fudging till, should they?
...And I'm also irritated by waiters referring to me and my family as 'you guys' as in "are you guys ready to order?" As a kid I used to marvel that my father was addressed as 'sir' and (whilst not having much by way of airs and graces) looked forward to the day that I was addressed in the same way. I blame bloody John Major and his classless society.
...And I'm also irritated that this thread has given me the chance to think about all the things that irritate me, which has irritated me.
Try getting out the right side next time. I've got to drive on the A34 today, shall I complain about it now, or after it has pissed me off? Which it will, because it always does.
I get irritated with shop assistants who ask if I need help packing when I've only got about 3 items!! Sometimes I say yes just to confuse them as they then are shocked I need help for so few items and they don't know what to do as not in their script!!
