Includes Laugher's latest Silver, but NOT Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark's 470 Gold to be confirmed tomorrow : Just WOW.!
Here's London's Final Table: Here's Beijing's: With 5+ days of competition left, Rio's current total compares very favourably, doesn't it.?
God, those two pro-Russian decisions are so bad they make Conlan's comspiracy theory sound perfectly justified!
Cypriot athlete Trajkovic runs a National Record and gets himself into the final of the Men's 110m Hurdles. He can't believe it. Came an excellent second in his semi-final. As the commentator said, that's what the Olympic Games is all about.
During the Pole Vault medal ceremony, the Brazilian crowd have come out with a few football style boos for Lavillenie, but thankfully Da Silva stopped them. But Lavillenie looks almost inconsolable. He really thinks he should be the Olympic champion, but he let the partisan crowd get to him then and now.
I'm sure he's a great athlete and a better person, but I cannot avoid giggling every time I see the British high jumper with Grabarz in giant block letters on his chest.
And the last laugh went to the Canadian!! Bondorenko chose to enter at 2.36 and messed up, went to 2.38 and fouled up his remaining two jumps. Not great tactics on his part.
The 200m final for ladies looks as if it could well be one of the great track races of these Olympics with Schippers, Bowie and Thompson the likely medallists.
Absolutely shocking women's 1500 final with the winning time at around 4.10 minutes. Every single runner there has run inside 4 minutes., but lo and behold they chose to barely trot around the first two laps so any chance of a Brit getting a medal went out the window as the last two laps became a sprint over 800m with the tiny Kenyan girl, Faith Kipyegon destroying everyone by a country wide mile. Why oh why didn't the British girls or the Ethiopians start off at a brisk pace and then everyone would have been inside 4 minutes?
Last track race of the night in the 110m hurdles for men, and Omar MCleod has got to be nailed on for the gold. Two good French hurdlers who stand a very good chance of medalling at well.
Mcleod is a very good hurdler and easily won gold. Wonder if he will find a place in the Jamaican 4 * 100 relay team. Orlando of Spain was the surprise silver medallist after qualifying as one of the fastest losers in the semi. For budding hurdlers who use this site, do not use this race in improving your hurdling techniques. The two Americans were shocking, while the French guys lost it in this final.
What I like about this is that it reminds me off a debate I had with US colleagues who claimed that if the US played sports like cricket they'd dominate it! 300,000,000 people to 65,000,000 and that's the difference! Lucky they had Phelps in there or they'd be 4th!!
3000m Men's Steeplechase final later this afternoon. Hope for a Kenya 1,2, 3 please!!! I am sure Kenya managed this last year at the WCs so why not again?
