What happens if Wenger leaves and we're relegated three seasons on the bounce though? Have thought about THAT??? Could and probably will happen. We need to be ready for DAT SHIZZLE
I'm not saying Arsenal would get relegated. I was using newcastle's relegation as an example of them flirting with it for years and then finally dropping out. It ended the monotony but it was a disaster. Same with Arsenal. We've been flirting with dropping out of the top 4. If we did, there's no guarantee that we'd get back in it if we appointed a chump, as has been advocated on here before. (Fat sam, Owen coyle, Martinez, redknapp) Again though, for the record. I am up for replacing wenger. I think he's taken us as far as he can. If he goes though I want somebody like Simeone. I don't want the club to take a punt on an unproven manager simply because 'it's a change'
Well those people are idiots. No one is suggesting that Iain Dowie or Alan Pardew should take over, that would be ridiculous.
Who the blazes suggested Alan Pardew?!?!? Arsenal are an elite European club with a big stadium, prestige, location and money. They can easily get a top manager.
I never said this season, but previously Pardew and others like him (allardyce and Coyle spring to mind) have been promoted by people on this forum previously as being better than Wenger.
There has also been a sentiment expressed that anybody could do at least as well as Wenger given our resources and that we would somehow be immune from doing any worse. That mentality for me is naive and reckless.
I have never seen anyone on here suggest that simply anyone or that an unproven manager would be good enough to replace Wenger. I don't understand why this keeps being repeated. It's a total non-sequitur. We may get worse without Wenger. We may stay the same. We could also get better. All we can say for sure is that the status quo isn't working and that changes need to be made in one way or another.
It's really not. Cini has on more than one occasion said that given Arsenal's resources 'any manager' could achieve at least what Wenger is doing. I agree that changes need to be made though. Wenger has taken us as far as he can go.
I can't be arsed to trawl through the comments and the search function is ****ed, but you said it alright. Do you still hold that sentiment ? Or do you think we'd need to replace Wenger with somebody with at least as much ability to keep us in the top 4 ? I noticed earlier you were saying that you couldn't 'care less' if we got worse.
It's a good thing that you're backing out of that comment, because it means you recognise that Wenger will need to be replaced with proven quality to achieve at least what he is doing. It doesn't really tally with your comment that 'I couldn't care less if we got worse' though.
You're a maniac. You make up things that you claim I've said, have no proof other than posting 'you said it alright' then claim I've backed out of the something that I haven't said? For a moderator you don't half type s**t. If you'd have put an 'm' in front of the word 'any' in your quote you'd have been correct. I never said 'any manager', I said 'many managers'. Which is true in my opinion. I don't think you'd need a particularly noteworthy manager to replciate what Wenger does. Don't let that stop you from making up stuff though. Do you stand by your sentiment that you think there are very few managers who could replicate what Wenger does here?
Also... Why are you so afraid of supporting a team that gets worse? What negative outcome is there to your life if Arsenal finished 6th five years in a row? Or 10th five years in a row? What are you scared of?
Yes, I think there are very few managers who could replicate what Wenger does at Arsenal. I think he needs replacing, but I don't believe that there are many managers who could do what he has done.
Why would I want Arsenal to finish 10th five years in a row when we're currently finishing in the top 4 consistently ? It makes no sense to go backwards.
The way I see it is, very few managers have actually won the PL (Wenger is one of them), many on here think you are only 1 or 2 players short of greatness (Wengers squad) the main missing ingredient being a prolific striker. Now, you get a new manager (hopefully a very good one) but his ideas/style are not the same as Wenger, he thinks you need 4 or 5 players to win the PL and a change in style/tactics. What are the chances you will improve that bit to lift you to the title and maybe even the CL against the chances it will all go tits up? My guess is that when you do change manager you will have to spend a **** lot of money (like us) and hope for the best. If you are happy to drop out of the CL and take a few years to get back (like us) or maybe never get back (like could still happen with us) then fair enough, go for it. We had the change forced on us by Fergie's retirement, many of you are begging for it. If I come on here in two years time and see the same people moaning about Wenger now moaning about the new manager having you in 7th or 8th I will be sorely tempted to laugh my bollocks off.
The thing is, you are probably correct, not many could do what Wenger has done which is keep Arsenal in the Top 4 on a shoestring budget. However, in the past 3 years, nobody needs to walk the path Wenger is walking which is trying to challenge on a shoestring budget, you guys are RICH. He should be trying to do the best that he can to challenge, not busy playing finance controller and maintaining top 4. That is not his job.
Wenger has been a brilliant manager for us, but it is frustrating as **** seeing him miss out on transfer targets seemingly down to his own refusal to pay the asking price. I don't want to see us being held to ransom like most of the big clubs do. But there has to be a middle ground somewhere, where we actually pay for the 2/3 players that we need to make us champions instead of buying 'potential'. The trouble is we've been saying this for what seems like years and Wenger just doesn't seem to want to budge on this. It's a shame, because in almost every other way he is a brilliant manager.
