You can't compensate for it as you leave gaps in other areas, Moreno simply goes to quick he should be 5-10 yards further back, he can still join as instructed but later in the play the left midfielder is then covering behind him.
Fair point - I still think it's a systemic issue. Not having Can in midfield was a big loss as well, and unsettled defence doesn't help.
This is true, if I'm playing CB (Klavan) I'm screaming at Moreno to hold until the right moment and giving Hendo a shout to cover. We still lack an organiser, a voice.
Again I agree, the midfield needs to read the play better and again be looking left and right it's not charge of the lightbrigade counter attacks have a structure.
Have to say both our FB are quick so could delay a little to make sure the attack is on...especially with the likes of Mane and Origi (ok not on at the time) now who are very quick too. Even if we don't bring anyone and Moreno stays first pick in I hope the back 4 and DM type position stabilise so they all play together every game barring injury...it'll either iron out the kinks or really highlight currently players in DM and LB if it continues...
Going late helps the counter as the left or right fullback will have tucked in leaving space wide as an out if a shot isn't on.
I agree there is a need for an organiser. There have been changes in personnel at the back which can't help but Moreno should be more aware of the game situation (as should Hendo as you say) he isn't playing for the schoolboy football. Shouldn't the defence operate in the same way regardless of who's playing?
People tend to go at defenders if a goal is lost but in the modern game it's the job the central midfielders to cover exposed areas by full backs.
no, his first job is to defend. Hence him being a defender. Much like a keepers first job is to keep the ball out of the net, being able to make a 40 yard pass is an added bonus
So when the midfield get the ball and looking to break, or midfielder should run into LB space to defend as first thought but the LB should run forward and attack should be his first thought?
this discusson is all good... I just want to say that if klopp has drilled these lads to go precisely what he wanted then irrespective of who thinks someone should be doing different the transition to attack has been drilled into these lasts for 6 weeks in preseason... if he'd bee out of place dont' you think klopp would have been going nuts at him. the fact is mr lallana was **** in the middle he decides to do a little flicky turn showboating and gets done in possession..... AND arsenal pressed perfectly on the guy. coutinho rolls it behind him and then lallana acts the mick. If you look at the exact second arsenal win it Wijnaldum is sprinting forward and is taken out of it by the pass.. Clyne is probabaly slow getting going and is more in line. I just think moreno went like he was supposed to. the ball is moving forward and to the right so he is headed to be the left wing option at he back stick. Irrespective of our own... perfectly valid views.... surely if klopp was angry with this he's have ripped into him. I think lallana was very lax on the ball there... i can't stand him personally.
I don't mind Lala...don't think he scores enough goals for all his showboating so wouldn't cry if an eventual improvement came in. But then I think our entire last year crop of AM's don't produce enough match to match..
We were on the counter - we had numbers to attack Arsenal and Moreno went onto support that. And yes - the DM will cover the space vacated by full backs. Without Clyne or Moreno, we have zero width because Mane and Coutinho drift centrally.
Fully agree DM should cover, but that's when we're on the attack in their half and they win the ball back. Not when we're 40 yards form our own goal after just winning the ball back ourselves.
Sorry, to support the attack? On the opposite side of the field. If someone was supporting the counter you'd be expecting Clyne to be because it's on his side of the field. Normally the side you attack on is the fb who bombs on whereas on the other side is where the fb sits back unless you have both of them bombing on
But we had won it, we had the ball. Coutinho passes it and lallana Dicks with it.... that's the FACTS. If we only attack if we are in their half wed never get a break away goal ever. Moreno did nothing wrong there. Perhaps the pattern for that situation was clyne is behind mane as valley moves right. Or perhaps both wijnaldum who could have got walcott had be also not gone forward and moreno should both be shot at Dawn? The case against moreno is damning enough without adding blame to him for a complete nob move by lallana. Go watch him step over it with his back to play assuming he'd 20 yards space and tell me I'm wrong
