The opening day of the season saw Alvaro Negredo open his account for Middlesbrough with the team succumbing to a second half equaliser from Stoke and having to settle for a toes point. Sunderland's spirited performance proved fruitless due to an unfortunate own goal by Paddy McNair. FORM Sunderland have lost only once in their last six league games winning 2 and drawing 3 Middlesbrough are unbeaten get in their last 6 league games although haven't won in their last 5. Key men: SUNDERLAND - Jermaine Defoe. The little (he's actually not that little... I've met him - although I'm not very tall!!) front man seems to score goals for fun wherever he plays. His goal against man city was his 20th in 50 appearances for the black cats. He'll be looking to continue that vein against the Boro. MIDDLESBOROUGH - Alvaro Negredo One in one. 100% return from the former Man City player. He's a tough, strong centre forward (who I thought we should've signed) and is likely to cause problems for Kone and Kaboul at the back for the Black Cats. Fitness (physio room) Kirchhoff and Jones should be available for the black cats. Seb Larsson is unlikely to return before February and still no return date for Lee Cattermole. Middlesbrough have De Roon, Husband, Ayala, Leadbitter and Espinosa missing fonts weekends trip to Sunderland Odds (courtesy of oddschcker) Sunderland: 31/20 Middlesbrough: 11/5 Draw: 23/10 Selected score bets: Sunderland 2-0 Middlesbrough 12/1 Sunderland 2-1 Middlesbrough 21/2 Draw 1-1 6/1 Sunderland 0-1 Middlesbrough 15/2 Please note - sorry there are no fancy pictures. I have no laptop this week as I'm on holiday and it's done from my iPad!! Kirchoff and Jones maybe in contention (physioroom). To early for a return to the team? Kirchoff that is, not the other plank. Will Davyboy alter his team or stick with that same rather strange selection v City?
For a home game, I would have thought he would bring back either Lens or Khazari at the expense of Gooch. The lad did well, but we need a much sharper cutting edge. I also think he will play Januzaj, just not sure for who.
I would expect a different set up entirely from playing a top of the prem team away to playing an arguably similar level team to ourselves at home. I don`t want to see O`Shea play in that position again. The years are catching up and it`s not his natural position anyway. The poor old thing did his best but he was always going to struggle. Maybe should have been subbed instead of Defoe if he was wrecked. Poor decision imo but it`s done now. If Kirchoff is fit he has to start. Kirchoff for O`Shea, Khazri and Janusaj for Watmore & Borini. Both of them gallop about plenty but not much else.
Police move to ban street traders ahead of 'high risk' Wear-Tees derby Sunderland City Council's regulatory committee have been asked to stop street traders near the Stadium of Light ahead of the Premier League clash please log in to view this image Street traders could be banned near the Stadium of Light for one game ahead of the first Wear-Tees derby in years. The last Premier League clash between Middlesbrough and Sunderland was in 2009 ending in a 1-1 draw but the sides clashed in the FA cup in February 2012, which saw the Black Cats see off Boro 2-1 after extra time. Eight months later Boro reversed fortunes and beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light. Northumbria Police, in a report to Sunderland City Council , have said the tie has a “high risk of disorder” and have called on the authority to suspend street trading on Sunday on grounds of public safety and the prevention of disorder”. Disgruntled traders have voiced concerns they will miss out on cash after Northumbria Police asked traders to voluntarily stay away on match day arguing they are usually able to trade ahead of matches and up to half time on Tyne-Wear derby days. In a letter to the police Melanie Dorrian said: “I understand the police concern but as a trader we pay to be there providing a service to the fans, this is my only income therefore I’m out pocket not only for my rental fees but income on the day, for these matches either relocate us or refund the days we cannot do. “It is a shame as it is always is a good atmosphere especially the first game of the season the fans will be disappointed that we are not there, would the police not consider letting us traders do the first half of the game as we are allowed to do this when Sunderland plays Newcastle?” Fellow trader Peter Allison said: “We want to trade as we always do on derby days, we pay annual rent for the matches and we are a business and should not be required to close as and when the police request as we have mortgages and a family to look after. I have always left at half time on derby days but to ask us to close for the whole match is not fair to traders when it is potentially one of the busiest days for us to earn a wage.” One of the conditions of the Sunderland street traders’ licences in the designated area surrounding the Stadium of Light states that trader’s consent is not valid from the time that a match deemed “high risk” by Northumbria Police is due to kick off and that all food vans must be removed from the area forty five minutes before the end of the game. Northumbria Police said as the match is considered to be a game with a high risk of disorder, traders should be banned to allow for the “safe movement” of people to and from the match. The Wear Tees derby will kick off at 1.30pm on Sunday.
Typical overkill by Northumbria Police, in my opinion they cause a lot of the trouble at football matches rather than sort it out, especially outside of the ground and on the way to the ground.
One is. The other is at their ground... You can't have already forgotten how the Premier League works mate?
Seems amiss if these traders have more flexibility when we come to town. This match souls NOT be as high risk as the proper Derby. IMOOC
