What an amazing run by the 19 year old Ruth Jebet in the women's 3000m steeple chase. She just missed the world record. Sensational. <applause>

Surely it's another Gold for Charlotte after that. Fingers crossed she isn't pipped by the Germans

She has it sewn up now Ron. Crowd not one bit happy the American has made the placings ahead of the Spanish girl.

Here goes the main danger. Beautiful horse but slight error means the Gold should be safe. Another slight error. I think we can count on a Gold for Charlotte now.

What a joke. Beautiful at times but how could she get such a high score with all those errors?

The Spanish one was a crowd pleaser but looked like work in progress.

Yes, Ron, it is really amazing too how frequently the word 'amazing' is used in interviews. I find this truly amazing.

That is the difference between Vandyke Upper School and Good Counsel College.

Hiroki Ogita of Japan had a real shot at making the pole vault final until he was let down by his dick. What a way to end an Olympic dream. (I think the bar was actually pushed away by his legs, but we can't let the truth get in the way of a good story can we?) <laugh>

Anyone remember Matt Shervington? He was an Australian sprinter. He could have been a world beater except for the python he was forced to carry in his pants.

Interesting stat from DW reader, jburnmurdoch. Have no idea how accurate it is as arithmetic was never my cup of tea.....<laugh>

"Fiji has 1.12 gold medals per million population (highest at Rio2016). If Trott/Kenny household was a country, stat would be 2.5 million."

More heart warming stuff from the games. American Abbey D'Agnostino clips New Zealander Nikki Hamblin from behind in a 5000m heat. Both ladies' chances went straight out the window, but the wonderful spirit shown by the athletes will not go unrewarded. The powers that be have since given both women a place in the final.

"Argentine sailor Santiago Lange, who lost part of a lung to cancer last year, teamed up with Cecilia Carranza Saroli to win gold at the Olympics."

What a very brave guy, an example to all.
