Just hope that the aggressive funding by the government through lottery money for British Sport will continue in future as there is a direct correlation between the policy change and our improvement in performance. I fear though that with the Government trying to continue with an austerity programme while simultaneously having to replace EU agricultural subsidies, EU funding for business and social programmes throughout the country and invest properly in the NHS, plus pay the 1000man negotiating teams required to hammer out new trade deals, sports and arts funding may suffer. Will be a shame if that is the case.

 

As its lottery money that funds them why would it change?

 

The government only has so much money to spend and has to prioritise where it goes. For example, after the referendum result and the subsequent tanking pound, it is estimated that the UK needs to find an extra £700million per annum to spend on defence (Nigel lied about the UK being a safer place once isolated). That money will either have to be taken from other budgets or generated in new taxes. Given the UK is going to have to reduce corporation tax to try and keep businesses here/attract them to come, any new UK Plc revenues will most likely come from the people. Income tax is one option. Lottery gambling is another.
