We do have quality up front but not a lot of width - Coutinho and Mane start wide by drift in. Without the full backs attacking, we have no outlet. But agreed - there's no reason why we can't have a full back who can attack and defend to a good level.
Yeah, I'm not suggesting they're nailed down in their own half - just that they choose the right moments to go forward.
Milner would be immense for you there. That will solve your defensive woes. Ours is huge and looks like Conte is going to continue last season's defensive frailties this season - in the hope Kante will plug the hole.
The fullback doesn't have to be great going forward. Obviously better if they're able to pay but their mere presence provides width because the opposition defender as someone to worry about. Oh, and even Brod figured out how ****e Moreno is defensively, hence him employing a 343 formation

I know he wasn't a fullback but Beckham was the same really. He wasn't a great attacking player but he could pass, cross and take a set piece. He complimented those abilities with hard work. Modern day fullbacks all seem to think they're the new Maradona and want to beat the opponent (or four) before putting a ball in. Beckham (and Finnan) are perfect examples of being able to cross. Especially if you do it early. You don't need to beat the man!!!
