These days you have to put your arms behind your back due to soft penalties, just the way the game has gone.
Yeah but to then turn your back (and your arms) to the ball makes it pointless. May as well protect your bollocks and face the ball
Yeah turning your back while having your arms behind your back is plain stupidity. I'd rather hold my bollocks and take a ball to the head.
The hands behind the back thing is in order to avoid a possible pen if the ball strikes your hand. It's nothing to do with being a "pussy", but is a bit stupid, imo. A pen is only supposed to be given if movement of the arms towards the ball is deliberate or if they are in an "unnatural" position, so shouldn't be given anyway if they're by your side. However keeping your balance often requires the arms to be away from the body so it's risky. Like a lot of things in football it's down to percentages, but I think the hands behind the back stance makes a natural blocking movement more difficult.
So have we changed with Klopp in charge? If we turn up v Burnley then yes, or are we the same as always and Burnley win easily by out fighting us?
Interesting point this. The was lallana and coutinho played for first 40mins suggests that we could be gash quite easily.
We have exactly the same problem that we've had the last couple of years; a lightweight midfield, shaky organisation at the back, including a very dodgy LB. We were already the top scoring team of the calendar year and perhaps we've improved that this year but until we sort the team out in its entirety, we'll win nothing. Could be fun though
No way we'll bring in a CM. Klopp is clearly going with Can, Hendo, Wijnaldum and Lallana. It's all about those players buying into the way we play and doing a solid job every week.
Then I think we'll struggle. Can is crucial and as we saw yesterday, our midfield is non existent without him. Not a fan of Hendo, whilst Gini and Lallana aren't natural CM's.
Hendersons performance yesterday was disgusting. Him playing as the deepest CM does not work at all. He works hard but he hasn't got a clue on how and when to press.
I'll re-iterate: unless we do something about left back we're like a Lancaster bomber with its outer port engine and ten foot of its left wing blown off. Worst of all is Klopp's inexplicable solution of trying to use our most creative player, who should be roaming freely and causing havoc when and where he wants to, as some sort of auxiliary left half to compensate for the situation. Even if he persists in playing Moreno, or thinks there's no alternative, there's no plausible reason to chain Coutinho to a cripple in a three-legged race.
Every time Lallana getting the sticks, yesterday he was one of our best players, though he gave the ball away for Arsenal first goal.
As mentioned in another thread, replacing Moreno alone won't make thT much of a difference. Without Can, the midfield offers zero protection to the defence. Lovren truly is an awful defender - he leaves so much space in behind him and it adds more pressure on Clyne, who himself was on toast when he was ripped by Ox. Lot of the attacks came down the right hand side. Still a lot of work required.
At some point you have to work with what you have, I agree on the LB situation (who doesn't) but in midfield and defense we have players of a certain standard and as long as they work as a team and build partnerships with the players around them then we'll be fine. Henderson isn't my fav player but he deserves a chance to proove his fitness and regain some form, Lovren has improved a lot but still work to do and I think that when playing with Klaven they are too similar so a better understanding is needed between them.
In regards to that line, replacing him will make a huge difference the lad needs taking out he may then relax, listen to coaches and improve. He's a liability on the pitch at the moment.
