Can anyone explain to me the cycling on now? Two people go as slowly as possible for a while, staring at each other and at some random point the one behind decides to race and they both sprint for a bit. Why not try and race the whole thing?

Yeah I get that but it must be in the interest of one of them to make it a longer race. It's like everyone walking for the first 9km of a 10km and then running like a lunatic to finish
Mere mortals like us could race all the way with little difference. At the very top level, it's all about millimetres of advantage, the rider at the back benefits from the slipstream, the hole in the air made by the lead rider, and it can give a 2-3kph advantage in speed. Only the very best can occasionally win from the front...
Clare Balding having a mare presenting tonight, mistake after mistake and she can't add up either. Best presenting is when Inverdale and Redgrave are together, I'm sure Redgrave is going to thump him before the Games are finished...
