I hear that after that tackle, that Hull have made an enquiry to sign Ben Watson. Kingston Rovers that is.
At the time, I was surprised to see a red card, so I see where Tom is coming from. Obviously the nature of the foul slowed Long down. So when watching in real time you see the contact/foul and then you look to see where the other defenders are and in those fractions of a second the Watford defenders make up ground they would not have, had Shane continued at full tilt. As Ashby and Tom have said on this thread, I personally think that type of foul should be a sending off anyway. Cynical and zero attempt to play the ball. A tackle shouldn't just be dangerous to warrant a red card
I don't agree, they were on top for only a quarter of the match and really had only one chance to score, which they used. We weren't brilliant, but we deserved to win.
Didn't add our excitement to the thread pre-game as you all seemed sooo excited I felt I couldn't really add anything. Mrs S was squeaking like she does when she can't find words to express the joy of the moment. All the joy of the first kick-off, (and free beer ) all the concern of the bad passing, then the dejection of Watford scoring first (that wasn't part of the plan) A really ineffective first half with much passing to opposition (lead by Oriel, but ably assisted by all the midfield) and a half-time of OMG where do we go from here But replacing the small lost boy in the middle with Hojbjerg really was the catalyst for an improved performance. We made space, Nathan started to play with some confidence, Maya improved and Hoj just looked class from the start. Dusan was great throughout. Pied looked like a good addition allbeit he was playing v 10, but he can cross a ball. Nathans 2nd goal was really well worked shame it was offside, push on Hoj looked like a pen to me and I say that in Saints mode so no comment required from any refs thanks. All in all, all the drama of the Premier League and we weren't disappointed. Of course we could have won 4-1 and been brilliant but thats why this league is exciting you never know. 1st half was a good demonstration for Puel of how physical some teams can be and we need to have an answer to that. I don't believe the diamond was in any way responsible in the 1st half. Generally Players and Teams win games not formations. We were a bit afraid, too lightweight, made mistakes and sadly JWP was out of his depth. We will improve and I'm not sure this game is any indication of how things will go on Friday ... but I can't wait to see Stay happy Keep clapping
I was in a good position to see that Shane was through 1 on 1 if he didn't get fouled. Took him just as he stepped up a gear to go past him and other defenders wouldn't have caught him without warp drive. It was also intentional. Red
My measured reaction to yesterday is.... meh. We were ok, we weren't bad or particularly good. Was all a bit average. Trouble is, nearly all Prem clubs, play the exact same way now. It's possession, possession, possession and not much goal mouth action. Leicester maybe the exception. Never thought I'd say it, but I'd almost crave a Wimbledon like team to do a bit of kick and rush and long throws just to liven things up or at least make it so you can tell the difference from the other team. I like Redmond though. I worry a bit out Long. JWP still doesn't do it for me. Romeu is meh. Davis is the only engine driving the team. Tadic should get much more of the ball. Not a bad start, should have won, but Prem football as a whole, could be very sterile this season without the Leicester wildcard.
I thought in the first half we were a bit "one trick pony", lots of passing, ending with a forward pass for Redmond or Long to pursue, but always in to a congested zone or too long and in to the goalkeepers area of defence. At least when Charlie came on we had a different option, he should have been on earlier.
Beddy!! Beddy, Beddy, Beddy Listen. I could barely remember my own name last night as I was so tired but still high after the day so don't take it personally
They source beef from a local butcher now, then put it in a brioche bun with a slice of swiss cheese. It's really nice and the same price (£4) as the **** you get outside.
It was their bald heeded Spanish midfielder, the guy was being out paced by Long until he was pulled back and felled. The Watford midfielder was canny enough to continue his running after the whistle to exaggerate his defensive position, in an attempt to place doubt in the refs mind. He was behind play and an unimpeded Long was skinning him too.
Can never understand why they can't sell bowls of noodles, curry and rice etc that you get at other public events. Good to hear the burgers are better though.
