The way you've phrased it here, I do not disagree. But to say the two are part of the same system is really a bit of a stretch
Bloody hell, I've just noticed how close we are to China at the moment. Only 4 golds behind with at least one more confirmed and a couple of other finals too. Not saying we'll pass them, I don't think we will at all, but didn't expect to be this close at all either. When you compare us to Russia, China and the USA in terms of both land mass and population, what we're doing is nothing short of extraordinary.
In theory, should we repeat Super Saturday once again, with the Gold and Silver confirmed in the cycling, we'd be above China, as they have the same number of Silvers as us right now. Don't expect us to get all 3 of those golds again though. Don't expect Rutherford to retain, and Ennis-Hill and KJT have a tough heptathlon against Thiam. Mo is the favourite, so I think he'll retain.
Very true but I do think the Sky tie up will have helped massively as well. I will say that lottery funding has helped completely overhaul many sports in UK as you say.
Yeah this reminds me of Macilroy imploding in the masters in 2011. It's not exactly the the same obviously but it's clear her doubts have gotten the better of her.
Ok then. One leads to the other. Although they are not directly part of the same system I would say indirectly they are because without one you probably don't get the other.
I said to my wife this morning that I had a feeling that the Belgium lass would spoil the party. She won it with that monster throw that made everyone sit up and take notice so much so that she blew her elbow out doing it.
I've been thinking that all the way through. Had a feeling we'd only get one of the three golds, I was right.
At the half way mark, we have one more medal than we did in 2012 (30 this time) and we also have at least three more confirmed medals tomorrow in the Men's Team Sprint and in the Tennis, as well as Justin Rose looking likely to get one of the medals in the Golf as it stands as well as Giles Scott looking good for a medal too in the Sailing. And there's still 8 more days left.
