The diamond isn't working too hot, I agree. But also, the midfield is really kind of sucking today. I would like us to make the subs people are suggesting (Hojbjerg in for one of the CM, Pied for Cedric) and see what happens before abandoning the tactic. Diamond relies heavily on the CM's controlling the midfield and maintaining possession. Our CM's are not coming close to doing that.
Heh, I was just thinking that yesterday. He's about the perfect no 10 for that role, given his love of running past the strikers.
Diamond is not a good formation. Very rarely has it been good for any side that have tried it. I just hope Puel isn't stubborn and sticks with it long term if it isn't working, but fair enough if he wants to try it for longer than just 45 minutes. Let's stay patient, wait til we have a fully fit squad and the transfer window is over. It's only 45 minutes into the season after all!
I doubt we'll change formation but I agree about the diamond. I generally don't like diamond formations and I don't think we have the players to play it. The problem with that is Puel's strikers seem to spend a lot of time out wide so even if Austin was on the pitch he probably wouldn't be in the box.
