As the other thread has melted down into a Twitter love in, thought I'd put this here

Moyes has claimed SAFC never gave Kone permission to speak with Everton but photo's showed him at Liverpool. If Everton spoke to him without getting our consent, can't they get done for tappin up a player ?

What are the rules on this ?

    The photos weren't authentic.

If we haven't gave permission, then no, Everton should not have been talking to him.

Even though, we all know they would have been, but proving it is another thing.

ot sure of rules but feel certain Mr Moyes ain't happy as Kone had been told new a contract would be sorted after transfer window closes as Baines and him were heavily involved in transfer dealings - watch this space

I am not sure if this situation is one that will not have repercussions down the line. Given that the player asked for a transfer and was then shot down by a logical exlanation by the club there will be no resentment at a later time.

I hate the modern player and agent culture believing in loyalty above everything.

It's feasible that Everton bid for him, so he jumped in a car and headed for Liverpool to a hotel with his agent, without actually having any contact with them more in hope than in expectation.

The Sunderland boss, who completed the season long loan signing of Adnan Januzaj yesterday, said: “Well we want to keep him, there’s no doubt about that. But again, we have got an offer (from Everton). But we need to make signings, we don’t have enough players here to let people go. Everything here, the final decision is on me.”

Sounds like he is being sold, but we are getting replacements in before that happens.

He also said he is in our plans and he will be offered a contract but not until the window closes because we've more pressing issues. I got multiple vibes and not sure what to believe.

I was wondering about but had a little think and concluded.

a). He`s letting them know he`s the boss and he`s not going to be ****ed about.
b). They can`t go crying to this CEO. They were both at the meeting and on the same wavelength.

    Positives I think.

Well Moyes full acknowledged Kone was promised a contract and vowed the club will honour this. So to me it's just telling Kone to cool his boots and wait his turn instead of trying to boss his club around on social media. The club hasn't received an official transfer request. It's like they're having to deal with a petulant demanding child. His agent anarl, pandering to his ego in the sole attempt of unsettling the player.

Kone needs better representation. Somebody who's going to keep his feet on the ground and remind him of his limitations.

You mean an agent who's bothered about football as well as money... If only there were more of them... (Any!)

There's plenty who are sound. Catts' agency seems fine, 7 years at the club. Looking at their client list there's big players on there but none who seem to be constantly unsettled and causing trouble.

There's decent ones out there. But this one Kone has got represents everything that's wrong with football.

Spelled "lining his own pockets" wrong there mate. <ok>

This McKay chap looks like bad news and I expect the club to be very aware of his part in all of this. Better off not having any future dealings with him imo.

I wouldn`t be the least bit surprised if other clubs are also taking notice of his antics. None of them need that kind of thing.

Again taking Emotion out of it, great masterstroke by Moyes. He did not say he will not be sold, but he has stopped clubs being able to offer him a better contract, as Kone and his agent don't know what they will get offered in September.

It also says to clubs like Everton that he is in our plans, so basically they would need to put in an even bigger offer if they want him.

My view is Moyes is buying himself some time. I expect him to see how Pappy gets on, and also who else he could possibly sign as a replacement just in case.

There are a couple of scenarios.

    1. Pappy is going to take some time and no one else is available, so we dig in and keep Kone no matter the bid.

    2. Pappy looks just as good as Kone and another good CB becomes available. People start bidding 25m+ for Kone so we cash in. We reinvest in another position Striker etc...

What Moyes needs is time and he has given himself that, plus a clear message to all the players that non of them are bigger than the club.

Maggie Byrne is now a football agent.

She was earning over 660k at safc.
