Austin is a cool finisher and I have no doubt he'd score a truckload given a proper service. But I don't think this formation suits him as he's expected to do a lot of work defensively, and he's wasted on that. He should be in and around the box, not chasing a full back.

I didn't notice until the other day when I really watched him , his running style his pretty weird. Almost looks like a postman running away down the driveway trying not get his ankles bitten ,as a happy Yorkshire terrier snaps at his heels.

Agreed -see him as more of a plan b or someone to come off the bench to get a goal in this system. Still feel that we will sign another striker in the Long mould to ensure depth and competition. I think that's probably sensible.

. . . .I was told that under Nicola that the club once tried to plant a seed with regards to a signing, that of a particular Davide Astori at the time to sound out any 'leaks'. . . .

Monk use to be very very ITK, but the person he talked to left.

there are a few like that. Long and Jay both have a strange gait. Whenever I'm about to say anything about it I remind myself of Michael Johnson though. If running like Forrest Gump was OK for him, I'll let our guys off.

Januzaj has gone to Sunderland, or Man Utd reserves as they are affectionately now known, on a season long loan.

Had a good old think about this one...

I can see where you're coming from, but I think you have to look a little deeper at what's going on at the club in my humble opinion.

Any transfer window for Saints is always going to be frustrating-end of. We're never going to splash the cash like that rich Uncle you tended to meet when growing up, but we're more like that annoying family member that reads "Which" magazine every month, outwardly we chastise them but secretly, we know when they buy things, they will more often be an absolute workhorse, but in an understated way. Occasionally there is a South Anerican special offer they will be tempted by, but these tend work out to be an overpriced scam.

I lived through and questioned the Lowe era of economics, sell high, buy cheap and feather his own nest and there are vague similarities-but the policy is sooo much more structured than that.

I firmly believe that the approach is very long ball, we have proved we can stay in the top flight, this plus careful player sales means financial stability.

The stepping stone a lot (not you) are dismissing is Europa league. I believe we've put together a squad that is deep enough for 12th-8th placed finish plus a Europa Squad/FA cup/league cup squad.

We could be doing a Hull/West Brom and signing virtually no one-the sure fire way to yo yo status.

We could be doing an Everton and throw money at players that might be good or provide a short term fix; banking on the new owners generosity with his own fortune.

We could be doing the Man City/United approach where breaking the bank isn't a challenge anymore and success is bought not developed.

Or we could be at a developing club, where we make our own money/luck/future in the way we want/need.

I'm not a happy clapper, far from it, but in a football world where it's getting crazier by the minute-I'm enjoying the shelter that Saints provides. But I know that's it's never, ever straightforward being a saints fan.

I'd be very happy with that, he was immense at Galatasaray last year and Celtic before. I thought Man City wanted to keep him, but I guess he's probably looking for first team football at this point.

    We could use a Belgian.

Regarding Austin, I just don't see him featuring regularly under Puel; think we'll see him primarily off the bench when we're chasing games, with wingers/attacking mids preferred to him up top much of the time.
