Any news? Some of you seem to have inside info, can you enlighten us? I want both to stay (if the wages are right) and more importantly think with the squad as it is we need them, both in terms of experience and strength in depth If Youga is over his injury then that should be a no-brainer
Has Christian Dailly not been taken out the back, shot and sent to the glue factory yet? He must be about 50 by now.
Youga is back in France. Was due to return this week but think he staying there longer. CP said this either pre or post match vs Millwall.
Kelly has gone back to France, and is 'welcome to come back and train' Dailly is past is sell by date as far as CAFC are concerned
yer daily too old but a great servant to the club the past 2 years none the less. maybe a coaching role? as for youga i dont think he would get back into the charlton side but could take him back then send him on loan
A fit Youga would definately still get into the side! He was one of our best players in League One prior to his injury, and considering how unimpressive Wiggins has been pre-season and how injury-prone Evina seems to be, Youga would be ideal. That being said, he seems to be nowhere near recovery.
Wake up and smell the coffee lads... There are no ifâs buts or maybeâs⦠Youga is finished and has been finished for some time now...!! The fella has not kicked a ball for us in over TWO YEARS. For the best part of the time heâs been laid out across the treatment table heâs been âearningâ around £7000 a week. Can we really justify shelling out yet more money on him in the blind hope that heâll make some sort of miraculous return to action, and showing no ill effects of his lengthy lay off from the gameâ¦? Absolutely ludicrous imoâ¦!! Donât get me wrong, Iâm sad that weâve lost yet another good player at a relatively young age through injury. However, things like this happen in a fast paced contact sport such as football. Imo both Charlton Athletic and Kelly Youga need to move on.
Franco, nobody is saying he should be resigned, let alone on a 7k a week contract, but from what I (and others) have seen so far pre-season, LB already seems like a problem area, and a fit Kelly Youga would solve that problem. I'm well aware that there's a strong possibility that he won't ever kick a ball again, but if he does, and can prove that he is fit and can play the way he had been, then we wouldn't have to shed out a lot of money for a quality left back as no other teams will be sniffing around having not seen him play for two years, and knowing that, Youga would probably take a pay-cut. There are so many 'if's' in that, but its still a possibility.
Sky Sports have Dailly listed in the 'Outs' section for us: Players out: Christian Dailly, Jon Fortune, Kyel Reid, Alex Stavrinou, Michael Stewart, Tamer Tuna, Kelly Youga (all released), Therry Racon (Millwall, free), Ross Worner (Aldershot, free), Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal, £1million), Jose Semedo (Sheffield Wednesday, free), Joe Anyinsah (Bristol Rovers, free), Miguel Llera (Blackpool, free), Alan McCormack (Swindon, undisclosed) Can anyone confirm this?
I'm surprised that Michael Stewart isn't fixed up yet, I had a quick google and couldn't see any news about him. Kyel Reid was on trial at Barnsley
Sorry WWOCB, just the one ….: "I'm well aware that there's a strong possibility that he won't ever kick a ball again, but if he does, and can prove that he is fit and can play the way he had been, then we wouldn't have to shed out a lot of money for a quality left back." As a professional footballer, having a 24+ month lay off through one specific injury (i.e. not knock on injuries steaming from one big injury, hamstring tears and so on) you are almost guaranteed never be the same player as you were prior to said injury, if you should manage somehow to shake it off in the first place. Incidentally, can you think of anyone who's had a long term injury lay off spanning 24 months yet made a full recovery and found the form they enjoyed prior to said injury...? Owen Hargreaves and Jonathan Woodgate are two high profile examples in recent years… Both are without doubt world class players when they were fit and in form. However, since the long term injury they both suffered they’ve never been the same player. Youga has had 24+ months, top quality treatment and facilities to assist him with making a return to action yet IT HAS NOT WORKED. We as fans haven’t even heard anything remotely sounding like positive news in terms of there being signs of an improvement in his predicament. What does that tell you…? It tells me that the injury he has suffered has not improved and that he is never likely to make a sufficient enough recovery to even get on the pitch for us. Let alone pick up with anywhere near the fine form he enjoyed prior to his layoff… I don’t see LB being a particular weakness… Evina and Wiggins are proven at this level. Whilst I’d agree the latter has not had a particularly good pre season, for me it’s what he does on the 6th and the subsequent following weeks that matters to me
I'm aware of that Franco, and I very much doubt that Youga will even play football at or above this level ever again, all I'm saying is that if Chris Powell can keep a cheeky eye on how he is progressing (without paying a penny towards his treatment) and perhaps giving him a trial if he gets fit (again - no pay involved), then we could end up with a decent player back on our books (perhaps on a pay-as-you-play deal). Two if's there ( ) but its a case of us having nothing to lose if he can prove his fitness and return to his fully ability, and a decent LB to gain. Michael Stewart was useless for us and seemed to think he was too big for this league, wouldn't be surprised if he came back begging for a contract.
Stewart did a job, and think having better players around him would have complimented him nicely. I just know he has turned his nose up on a few offers. Last I heard he might be having to try his luck abroad again.
Yes I agree and so well put, there's nothing worse than players thinking they're above their station.
Agreed the only reason he signed in the first place was because Leeds turned him down and he had very few other options. The fact that he didn't stand out in a singe game for us shows that he's hardly Championship quality.
Stewart made such an impact on me last season that I didn't recognise him on the pitch and wouldn't recognise him if someone posted his picture on this thread, get my drift?
Martinho would you please identify the fraudster who between March and June 2011, convinced members of the public that he was in fact, a Championship quality footballer: please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
