Going camping at the lake tonight with family to get out of the city to watch the meteor shower tonight.
I was going to go night kayaking tonight- until the Mrs said she wanted to go too to see the shower (she won't kayak with me). The compromise was camping on a lake just outside of town. Not as unpopulated as the lakes I normally kayak at but should be dark enough.
Had a letter from police today. Been busted doing 36mph in a 30mph zone. Speed awareness course here I come
That's rather pathetic. A ticket for 36mph? You need to try harder. At least be caught doing 10mph over. Thankfully traffic cameras are against South Carolina constitution. Cops can't put them up in our state because they're illegal.
I know when it was and the camera actually got the wrong reading. I'd slowed down because I knew the camera was there but could have sworn it was a 40mph zone and that's exactly what I was doing as I went passed lol
Speed cameras are always slightly in favour of the driver too, means if someone is caught there is no argument.
Just completed one this morning for doing 81 in a 70. I did one about 5 yrs ago as well, better than the points
That course is a giant scam they have no evidence that it has an effect on peoples driving habits - unlike the 3 points and the fine When i got my ticket and saw where the awareness course was hosted i didn't know whether to laugh or cry since it was next door to the building i had been going to when they caught me I said sod it and took the 3 points and the fine rather than the course
A friend of mine in university was from Massachusetts. At the time (not sure if still the case) they didn't use a points system for licenses. They had a "get any two tickets in a year and license gets suspended" system. However out of state tickets didn't count and since he was in university in SC he didn't care. A significant % of his expenditure was to speeding fines he was always getting pulled over. He got pulled over doing over 60 on a rural winding road that he thought was a 35mph zone and had an "oh ****" moment. (25mph over limit and they can arrest you). Anyhow when the cop told him " Did you know you were going 64mph in a 45mph zone" and he started laughing (out of relief). This made the cop bust out laughing too and he just gave him a warning. Ironically last I heard from my lead-footed friend was that he was a highway patrol officer in Connecticut. (that was 12 years ago I haven't heard from him since). I got a warning recently (60 something in a 55mph zone). Had the kayak on the roof though so the officer just talked to me about kayaking spots for 15mins then let me go.
