The other big difference is how quick opposition fans are to undermine the confidence of any England player who plays for a rival. Just look at the amount of glee shown when Henderson flopped in his first couple of seasons at Liverpool, the petition to keep Cleverley out of the side and the regular abuse directed at Rooney, Terry, Lampard, Gerrard etc. The tribalism in English club football means that far too many fans would rather see players from their rivals do badly at a national level than see the national team do well. And that passes on to the players meaning even when we do have some good players they rarely sustain their club form for England.
I've banged on about my lads experience he was released by Cardiff and Swansea on both occasions it was lack of pace or not big enough, never mind that he can use both feet is technically brilliant and can play in every position on the field.
No one else wants to. Since the media chased Scolari away in 2006 and the FA pushed Capello out for the sake of good PR the best managers haven't shown much interest.
I have always wondered this as well. Not just tribalism amongst fans, but players too maybe? Though I despise international football for the most part, I cannot say I ever took delight in seeing an England player failing, but thats generally because I wouldn't SEE them fail because I don't watch international football.
You're being uncharacteristically ****ish here Bod. No hypocrisy about retiring to Spain and wanting your home country to do well, surely? You can take the man out of the country...etc. And your characterisation of NSIS couldn't be more wrong by the way.
I can take a joke, no problem. But it didn't come across that way to me at all. As SD said, because I choose to spend the majority of my time away from England - I also travel a lot - that doesn't mean that I've ceased to be English. Or ceased to have any pride in our national teams. I'm immensely proud of our RFU side right now. I'd hoped that one day I could feel the same way about our football team too!...
Of course not, I have a friend who moved to Spain and started a business. I was messing. Still don't give a dusty **** about the England football team though, that part I wasn't kidding about.
He went mental over Brexit. Convinced his door will be kicked in at night and he will be dragged from his bed and thrown into a deportation truck. @Tobes had a liitle deltmown aswell
