Ell please link this to yours as I'm out early today and wanted to get my two penneth in first.

Last nights game started off as another shocker in the making, but there was some good football from both sides. another mistake from young Coyle and another goal, so thats the reason we need another more experienced defender. he will learn but it can be costly and we were only playing Fleetwood right.

Wood again was disappointing but Roofe, Antonnson and Mowatt were excellent and man of the match Pablo Hernandez was on a different level. Pablo also played all 120 minutes so for all those who said he would be shyte, please ...... Our Swede needs to be starting as he looks sharp and knows where the goal is.

Young Ayling joins the club today, a centre back or a right back and looks like £3m. he wins the ball and can play it out and hold the defense together with skill and is cool - thoughts

More players to come in the next few days apparently. - thoughts

If these players arrive I would say Monk is being supported by Cellino, and we know he hasn't got deep pockets but he is spending - thoughts

Are you more optimistic after last night

Morning Doc and all. I'm not more hopeful after last night as I hadn't lost hope in the first place. The picture will be a lot clearer mid September with all new signings bedded in and a decent few games under the belt. Agree with the players you mentioned Doc. Antonnson looks to have great movement and that was some finish from him last night. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of our five penalties, half expected us to lose that shoot out. At least it puts the naysayers back in their boxes for another few days

    Morning Doc morning all....

I didn't care too much about the result, with such a short and under prepared preseason I was pleased to See Monk giving players a chance to shine and gain match fitness.

Nice to hear we are still in the transfer market, looks like we missed out on Liam Moore which is a shame.

Hopefully we will continue to improve and Monk will quickly work out his best starting 11

On Sky Gayle said we are far too easy to play against and very predictable. Must be the first time he has seen us play this year so a bit of a strange comment

    Good morning Doc

Cant believe Matt thinks so little of (y)our input he tramples all over your excellent morning thread and starts an inferior one. <laugh>

    As for Cellino spending behave.

Ddo the math he is selling high and buying cheap, when Taylor goes on the last day of the window Cellinos (not lufc) nett profit on transfers this window will be well north of £10 mill!

Morning all ... some perspective ... a Cup tie early in the competition away from home in midweek is always very tricky, pleased with how we kept going and fought our way through ... look around the results and you quickly see how easy it is to get turned over by lower division teams who have nothing to lose ... Antonsson is a big plus, Roofe looked as if he's over his "I'm playing for Leeds Fcuking United" nerves, Pablo is a class act and hopefully Monk can keep him firing, Mowatt finally looked like he wanted to be on the pitch

Luke Ayling will be a good addition (surprised Bristol are letting him go, but probably similar to us with Byram), much needed as Berardi is a bit injury prone and Coyle not there yet so pleased we are getting this deal done ... be great to get a few more signings done soon, Monk clearly pushing for players but as we know it's not a simple process as so many variables like family moving, wage demands, agent demands, guaranteed starts, contract length etc ... Monk at least has been sensible so far with his approach and not making signings just for the sake of it

Monk will get this team of ours together, it's a long season and the nature of the Championship is such that even if you are ten points adrift of playoffs with one month to go you still have a chance ... oh yes, and what a focused, determined penalty shootout, never in doubt

Tony Gayle is a closet Wallie, so ignore him

Just read all comments and the team shall bed in, I am convinced of that, but the team will take shape over the next 4 to 6 weeks, just hope we don't throw away too many points in that time that may be costly to us at the end of the season.

Oh and don't pay any attention to gay Gayle, they just look after their jobs, toss pot he is.

Morning all. A win's a win & we're in the next round. We did improve and as others have said, the future is Hernandez, 2 up front, and Mowatt running the midfield. Don't know this guy Ayling. But we just need a CB who will take charge of the back 4 & do what he's paid to do; 'kin' defend...set plays in particular. Luton in the next round. Should be a good game, & we should be able to progress further

    Morning all

A win is a win but it was in the League Cup so I'm not that bothered to be honest,

I think we should be playing to up front as Wood won't bring us the goals we need then we need to sign another striker to be a super sub or relegate Wood to bench

Happy to be signing another center back and I noticed he was dropped from the Arsenal Youth System, so he might be pretty good just not French and that why he's still not playing for Arsenal. TBH I'd still like to see a big name transfer come in.

Morning Billy, good comments.Something in the back of my mind tell's me Gayle is not exactly a Leeds United fan. Regarding last night(and I'm going on watching a stop start link for the game) Bamba should not be Captain or even playing, I've never warmed to Philips, Taylor has no interest in playing for the club and should be sold(hopefully Cellino would invest in some decent replacements with the money. <ok>

TBH we should be getting rid of Phillips as I think we are getting another Chris Dawson situation with him.

Think Phillips will be a very good player, worth keeping him

Even now he's better than Diacouraga

He may well become a very good player... he's nearly 21 years old and he's been hanging on the edge of the first team for 2 years now. How long are we going to wait? He may come good but when is he going to come good? 2 maybe 3 years by then he'll be 23/24.

Reports from Holland saying Botaka has joined Charlton on a season long loan also we are supposedly looking to secure the services of Jack Cork from Swansea

Can someone please speak to Everton about loaning Luke Garbutt as he has no squad number, so could be available and we need defenders?
