Can Spurs ever be credible title contenders with Daniel Levy at the helm?

    Crisis at Spurs?

Head of recruitment falls out with Levy?

Paul Mitchell: Head of recruitment to leave Tottenham

please log in to view this image

Dele Alli was one of the players to arrive under Paul Mitchell's reign as head of recruitment
Tottenham Hotspur's head of recruitment Paul Mitchell will leave the club at "a future date to be mutually agreed".
Mitchell, 34, followed manager Mauricio Pochettino from Southampton to White Hart Lane in 2014.
He has helped recruit players like England midfielder Dele Alli and Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld.
"Whilst most of our business has been completed, Mitch is keen to ensure we start the season in the best position," Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said.
"We understand and respect his wish to consider new avenues. The priority right now is the final few weeks of the transfer window"

Is it? ... Spurs appear to be cocking that up too ... anyone remember the Berahino instalment payment fiasco? ... deja vu...

Tottenham's move for Marseille and France winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, 21, could be on the brink of collapse, because of disagreements over the structure of the £11m payment. (Guardian)

More worrying surely are the rumblings of disquiet from the existing players ... Christian Eriksen, perhaps not unsurprisingly, is not happy being paid a salary which will be a third of what Bolasie is due to get in the proposed deal to Everton and being on a quarter of what the top earners at Leicester City are now getting (admittedly there may be a title winnerrs premium in that <whistle>)

In contrast to the understanable interest in Leicester City players, there appears to be absolutely no interest from major clubs in Spurs players ... this time last season there were rumours of Harry Kane to Manchester United - given his performance at the Euros it may not be surprising that such interest has cooled - realistically would any of the very top clups in the EPl and Europe now want Harry? ... would he be a starter for Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, leicester, Barca, PSG, Real,,Bayern or even the next tier? ... perhaps Levy should have cashed in last year whilst his star was still rising ...

So the question begs... will Spurs ever, realistically, ever win the EPL title unless there is a complete mind shift and change of personnel and policy in the runningof the club?

Levy can be a royal pain, no point denying it. But his job is to run a financially profitable club.

As to our players, if Kane was for sale, or showed any inclination to leave, there'd be a long queue for his signature. Eriksen has already said that he wants to stay. Hopefully a deal will be struck.

Apart from those facts, as a Wum attempt - meh! 4/10

Wum attempt? ... nothing in there but facts ...(unlike many of the stories flying arouns concerning Leicester City players for instance) <laugh>

Ericksen for instance has 'rejected' a contract offer - surely that means he is leaving?

You mean the bit where Eriksen himself says "we're still talking, it's all positive. I think everyone can see I can fulfill my ambitions here?"

Perhaps you can remember Mahrez saying something similar recently??....

It must be a constant battle if you're trying to bring in good players to build a side while you've got Arthur Daley there trying to ship them out just as fast for a "nice little earner".

There was only ever going to be one winner in that little war. Mitchell should go where he's desperately needed... like arsenal.

... apparently he may be coming to us ...LMFAO <laugh>

PS we wouldn't want any of their players!

OK maybe Alli ... but Harold wouldn't get in our forward line now ...

And that long queue for Kanes's signature, should he ever be for sale, would include Leicester's.

If they could afford him, that is!....

Levy has sold the family silver many times, punched above their weight last year but normality beckons them to 6th.

Spuds had its only chance to win the PL last season, they blew it, so back to 5th for them.

UTD and Borebus will do much better this season

Then UTD will be known as borebus, but until such time its UTD.

    Anything else to add?

Said it plenty of times before, but Levy is a shyster. His primary motive is to make money for himself and Joe Lewis. ENIC is a investment company that is designed to turn a profit and make the owners rich. Spurs (amongst their other assets) are simply a vehicle for ENIC to make money. Levy has a long track record of selling their best assets (Modric, Bale, Berbatov etc) and a poor track record of man management, hiring and firing managers and has numerous complaints against him from former players.

Spurs fans tend to worship Levy as some kind of Messiah, as a businessman, sure he can turn a profit, but his footballing management is pretty woeful. You just have to look at the Adebayor debacle as one recent example where having frozen him out of the club, Levy ended up having to pay his £100k per week wages until he found another club. As an Arsenal fan I'm glad to see him continue at Spurs, because I know that they will never be able to really turn a corner and become a club that challenges with Levy at the helm. Out of the 12 mangers he's employed since Wenger took charge, precisely 0 have been able to catch up with Arsenal :)
