Bit of a diversion here. 1998/99 walked the league with 105 points. 99/00 season, see's the start of a magical 2 years. First home game v Watford today in 99.Bang bang. SKP. We all know what happened that and the following season. 2 7th placed finishes. SKP. SNQ. Johnston. Summerbee. Gray. Rae and co. So close but it slipped away. If only we could........
But we did not, and it looks like we are not going to do much this season either. Really think we are in for another long relegation slog, will we ever learn?
We started to lose players and we didnt replace them with adequate quality to maintain the standard we were at.
Boooo. Just enjoy the memories of those 2 seasons. There is numerous other threads to be depressed on.
Don Hutchinson in particular was a big loss for us. He was a massive player for us at the time and we replaced him with Jason Mcateer.
The biggest mate. Hutch made everything work, the most important player we've had in my lifetime. We were ****ed the second he went.
Aye, he was underrated as **** Hutch. Win tackles, pass, score goals, quick thinking. He was superb, we are crying out for exactly that CM right now.
He was on TalkSport talking about it the other week - said he was all ready to sign a new deal and then he got a call saying we were selling him. Wanted to stay on better money but the club wouldn't pay it! Nowt much changed eh?
Aye, he asked for a raise, Reid said he'd get it done, club said no. He asked for a lot of money though I think, it wasn't all on the club. I'm sure he asked for about 50k, at a time when only Keane was on that wedge.
Yeah he was quailty. As was Stefan Schwartz who didnt play that many games for us aswell. We had some quality players come and go around that era.
As I've said always like this in my life sentence - missed opportunities in abundance - one player short of a good team - endless misfortune before the current FA'd intervention - ad nauseum I think - definately fait accomplii -but fans stay

I reckon I have a couple of years left living over here in Abu Dhabi, I will dedicate that time to finding a ridiculously rich Arab sugar daddy for our club....Lets face it, it worked for Man City.
Basically - this is the typical of mess ups we make - miss opportunities as we seem clueless to move forward towards any real success. After winning the FA Cup in '73 -Bob Stokoe left after a short while as he felt could'nt handle the expectation pressures to take us forward. Nobody has managed since really -
