4 days until we kick off and no real sniff of a new striker. Surely it was the number 1 priority for us after relying so heavily on Defoe last season, so why no action? How can we realistically get in before the close. If we stumped up the cash could we convince Benteke to come to the SOL? Everyone has a zillion bucks to spend but still new one. If Boro can sign Negredo FFS!
Type of forward we're looking for isn't going to be prolific anyway. We've got to learn to get our goals from everywhere. We're never getting two goal scorers at one club. We're lucky we've got one. They're a very rare, very expensive comodity. We need to be realistic.
If Defoe was 5 to 8 years younger I wonder how much he'll be going for, he'll be hovering around the £25-30 million bracket I would have thought........he certainly wouldnt be playing for Sunderland anyway.
If he was in his 20s we couldn't afford him today, no chance in hell. Back to goal bully of a striker needed, 1 in 4 goals is ok, somebody who can hold it up, help bring our defensive line forward as we can get Borini, Watmore, Lens and Khazri into goal scoring attacking positions. All 4 are capable of scoring much more than they do, but the way long ball to a midget forces our defencive line back, means they don't see enough of the ball in the right positions. No brainer for me. A hunt for another Defoe will fail unless we get lucky. and it wouldn't solve the problem we had last season.
Bony or Benteke would be perfect, they'd also be statement signings and raise the profile of the club in an instant. We should be going all out for either one of those if it's £30million then let's show the world we mean business. Both would be saleable assets, the fee is a moot figure cos you know you'd be seeing some of it back down the line.
Be a similar cost without the experience mate. Benteke would be the best on resale I think, 2 good years he's still be young. Danny Ings would be great as well and would cost about half.
There are 2 or 3 that have been mentioned that clubs of our level are bidding for, so why not us? Everyone has cash surely and I've never heard that our books aren't balanced properly. Negredo must have lost a game of Poker to be at Boro on loan this year!
