Slade sets his team up to be "tight" - with the two holding midfielders. That's great if you can get one, potentially two and then bid to see the game out. But if you go a goal down, then you should be looking to change the whole system and revert to an attacking style. This is where one of the middle men need to be a box to box type in the mould of Cousins. Slade doesn't appear to have faith in a player like that though, and hasn't moved with the times in that respect. It's only two games in, but it's apparent there is no plan B, and we sure as hell don't have the players for plan A.
Seems very Parky-esque playing two midfielders. Remember the seasons he was in charge, we didn't conceded massive amount (barring Millwall and Swindon) but we didn't score much either.
When Charlton appointed Slade, many Cardiff fans mentioned that he was a tactically defensive manager who got sides organised but not much else. This has proved to be accurate based on the pre season friendlies and our first two games. Rick Everitt has posted that there is a power struggle going on behind the scenes between The Bitch and Slade over spending money. That will only end with one victor, and it won't be Slade.
CP preffered that style - but he got the right players in Stephens, Hollands and even Hughes. 2/3 had legs, the other had tactical nouse.
He also realised Jackson at LM worked because of Wiggins bombing on. A 34 year old JJ + Fox offers absolutely nothing. He tried it in several pre season games and again, against bury. Just had a look at his managerial record - it's even more dreadful than I remember.
This one will run and run. Slade is on a 3-year contract, and he's not a Network man, so Roland can't shunt him off to the back of beyond. To get rid would hurt Roland financially, Slade will know that, and won't walk without a decent pay-off. So we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future. His public demands for more players will help drive down morale, and there won't be any winners, everyone loses, especially if he turns out to be almost as bad as Karel, as early signs suggest. He seems to have bought in to the bunker mentality quite early too.
