Why do some managers leave buying players until the last minute.

For example Arsenal leave things to the last minute, why not get your players in early like the might UTD have done <whistle>

    Must drive fans mad

We bought players before you therefore are better at this than you.

Seriously, it must be frustrating for the managers and coaches who have little or no time to assimilate these new players into their squad, etc.

In Levy's case, he's always trying to nick a 'bargain' once in a while it works - VDV. But mostly it just ends in frustration and too late to find a replacement - Berahino!

Waste of time, mostly, imo. Identify your requirements and get them in ASAP.

Everton in particular are like the pissed bloke in a nightclub who has just noticed it's less than half an hour til the place closes and all the best looking birds are now spoken for. So now they're staggering around waving their cash about and offering to buy any old slapper a double malibu and coke.

As for Man U, I fear they may live to regret getting their wallets emptied by a couple of very high maintainence call girls.

Wenger spends all summer insisting that his squad is strong both feesically and mentally, they got tonked in their first league game of the season by losing the midfield battle to some Villa youth team player and so he goes out and panic buys Arteta.

A lot of the transfers are lined up and then need one to tumble to set off a chain of dominoes.

Pogba's move will set off a chain that'll see a few United players move on and then other moves along the chain, whether directly or indirectly linked.

Indeed, its similar to the upper chain in the housing market.
You put your house up for sale and start looking at new houses, but cannot make the offer till you flog your own, and the person whose house you are buying cannot put an offer on a new house till you make an offer on his, and so on and so on.

Wenger talking about Pogba: "The value of a player is dependent on his talent, the expected strengthening of the team, his age and of course his resale value."

The bit in bold must infuriate Arsenal fans.

Why in the **** would you even think of selling a player you have only just bought?!
Can't be too confident in his ability to choose players, if he worries about how much money he can recoup on them if they are ****.

Why should Wenger give a **** about re-sale value?

I mean he's 107 so he'll be dead by the end of a 5 year contract anyway.

most clubs consider this when buying a player, the only ones who do not are the ones who can easily afford to lose quite a bit of money, take chelsea for example, despite being massively successful between 2005 and 2012, they would have done a rangers, had they not been underwritten by Roman, these are the only clubs that don't consider these things, the clubs that are run like a business. Man U could afford for prgba to be a flop and it would still not have a major effect on them, other clubs simply could not take that risk.
