They have bid £18m for Kone (Sunderland) which has been accepted.

It's fun following the trail of money there. Man City buys Stones. Everton uses that money to buy Bolasie. Palace uses the proceeds of the Bolasie sale to buy Benteke. And Liverpool uses the Benteke money to...well, probably buy more Saints players at some point.

 

Kone and Bolasie won't make them a top 6 team though , they're going to need more than that.

According to a report from the Newcastle Chronicle this afternoon, Southampton have emerged as potential rivals to Newcastle for the signature of Frankfurt forward Luc Castaignos.

The report claims that the young striker could be available at a small fee, also. It is claimed that Castaignos could be available at a price as low as €3 million this summer.

The 23-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Saints but nothing ever materialised of the rumour.

Castaignos has been in good form for the Bundesliga side in recent times but is most well known for his impressive tenure in the Eredivisie with FC Twente, where he notched 37 goals in 94 matches for the Dutch outfit before earning his move to the German top flight.

 

It was too low to start with and will look a bargain by the end of this window. We had no need to sell at all let alone before we knew the going rate this summer
