What utter bollocks. "Openly wants to leave the club" - Proof please. All I've read is about his love for the club, fans and London, but that he wishes to return home one day. "not give 100%" - He did last year, even with his injuries. There is no doubt that he would only ever leave Arsenal for Barcelona. Hence why no other others have been contemplated. It is clear to all, because Cesc has made it clear, that one day he wants to return to Barcelona. Not necesarilly now, but Arsenal will put up with Barca's repeated offers, in case they meet our valuation, in which case it would make sense to consider selling him.
cesc wants to leave you, modric wants to leave us,niether have put transfer requests in,so is it the papers making more of it than the players, just to sell more copies
You're just in denile that he wants to leave now, especially after yet another trophyless season with us. Yes he loves the club but no where near as much as Barca, where he learned his trade and is born and bred from. Do i want him to go, NO. Is the current situation with Cesc a problem, YES. Who is bigger, ARSENAL.
Sorry magic but I agree with lazarus, he looked like he had had enough at the end of last season (and who could blame him?) and Wenger has recently been talking about how 'torn' he is. I do think he tried hard last season but this year if we keep him and his teammates bottle it again I don't think Fab will to try that hard to stop it happening.
Quite a big word that IF. Again media sensalisation. Learn not not believe all you read in the papers. I'm not in denial. If he goes for the right price, then Bye Cesc and thanks for the memories. We've had better players in the past and will in the future.
So you're basically saying that he would be unprofessional if he stayed? That would be bad for him as well. I think he is too proud a footballer for that to happen. If he stays, I think he will try his best to win a trophy at a club he clearly loves (albeit maybe not as much as his boyhood club). As for the end of last season, I think all the players looked like they'd had enough. Plus he would have been frustrated because of his injuries and not managing to lead the club to a trophy.
I'm not saying that he would be unprofessional if he stayed, just that he would let himself go with the flow because he wouldn't think anything would change if he really tried. You're right that most players looked pissed of at the end of last season but how many of them are actively wanted by supposedly the best team of all time? I don't think he will be able to stay motivated if another 4-4/tottenham 3-2/liverpool 1-1 happens again
I agree, we've had better players go and still gone on. But there is one common factor with this, we haven't won anything since losing them!
Only if you are looking very short term. When Adams retired we had the invincible season. When Ian Wright left, we won leagues. I could keep going.... Anyone who only remembers the Wenger era is spoilt with success. Try supporting Arsenal in the 70's or 80's.
Didn't Arsenal have a good start to the 70s with that double winning team? I only began to follow footie in 1978 and we bagged the FA Cup from Utd in '79. It was a bit here and there after 1981 when we were 3rd in Div 1 as it was then but we did bounce back to take the title at Anfield in 1989. Now that was a glorious occasion!! I still recall nearly crashing through the floorboards when Mickey Thomas scored. Then we had a great 1991 season, only losing to Chelsea if I recall. It wasn't too bad. I know there were a couple of bad years but there were also successes to celebrate. Granted they were achieved under different management while everything from 1997 has largely had Arsene's stamp on it.
But that's the point. Nothing from 71 to 79, nothing from 79 to 87. Whilst not really challenging every year like we do now. Also without the entertaining football. 7 years ain't that long really.
Perhaps not but it seems like it when you've had the sweet taste of success. Hey I recall back in the old days, we used to kick Utd's butt. Now that was worth something surely?
So do you believe that Wenger is the man to take us forward? I know he's done a great deal of good for the club but he seems to have lost his edge clearly. Losing to Birmingham in the carling cup last year said it all. I can understand getting beaten by the top 3 but Birmingham?!?!
Yes I do. Name me a manager who could keep competing at the top whilst keeping the club financially stable over the last few years. We can not compete with Man Citeh and Chelsea. We do not want the debt of Man U and numerous other clubs. How many clubs have done better than us over the last 5 or 10 years? 2. Man U and Chelsea. We lost the game against Birmingham because of a stupid **** up. Would I like to see changes, yes. But not in the manager himself.
If it was just 1 stupid F'up then fair enough, but it seems like a reoccuring theme for the past few years. Pep Guardiola would definately be the man for me. He wants to leave Barca soon and look for a more demanding challenge, and Arsenal would be ideal for him. He already admires the way we play and are setup and he would continue to play an exciting brand of football. He would also not be scared to bring some new players in and get rid of the misfiring ones. I really think we are close to winning the title, we just need to change a few things and we'l be there. Wenger is just too stubborn to make the changes, maybe its his age? Pep on the other hand would be willing to make neccessary changes to win.
I'd like to see faith kept in Wenger for atleast another couple of seasons. Then see where he is at. If we drop from the top 4 he will have failed. If we get some silverware he will have succeeded. I'd love to see Pep come in as his replacement when AW does finally leave though. But in Wenger we trust!
He seems to come out with too many excuses of recent. We are now in a stable financial situation with funds available yet he is still dithering on bringing new players in. He simply isn't making any satisfactory changes in order to bring success. If anything, his time could be up whether he likes it or not. With other clubs getting stronger and we remaining stagnant/weaker, i can only see one way, and that way isn't up...
Considering we have been written off constantly over the last 5 years and told we will finish outside the top 4 and yet every year we still make top 4, i won't be panicing about dropping from the CL just yet. Bare in mind we have qualified for the CL for the last 14 years. I personaly don't see how tottenham or liverpool can get past us. Remeber that thsi season we were very much in with a title shout before the collapse. Provided we don't collapse again (even if we just do really average at the end of the season) we will finish comfortably above spurs and pool once again. People panic way too much about our situation. I do agree Wenger may need to blow the dust of the cheque book though!
Well this season is likely to be Arsene's last if we are no further forward in putting together a team that will challenge for silverware and if the same problems of the recent years keep recurring. If he is the man to take us into the future then it is these deficiencies which he has to address or it's hasta lavista baby. That would be a sad end though but he has the solution in his hands.
