Hi guys, I am involved in a movement that is raising awareness to the high number of men who commit suicide. It is the biggest cause of death in men under the age of 45. I am working on this campaign alongside Luke Ambler, who is a professional Rugby player for Halifax and Ireland. Luke has recently lost a family member to suicide and has put together an organisation in Halifax, called ‘Andysmanclub’. Surprisingly we don’t believe that there’s any male only places like this for men, who are suffering and find it hard to open up. It is an open door centre where any man, of any age, can pop in and know that it’s okay to talk. Luke is looking to open up 20 centres across the country and estimates this to be at £500 per centre, so we have a target of £10,000 that we are looking to raise. Luke is close to having more Rugby league clubs on board, and I am in the process of contacting football clubs to see if they will highlight what is going on, and maybe help us with a venue, in that area. Please check the website http://www.andysmanclub.co.uk/ If you can, please donate on the link below as we are extremely grateful for ANYTHING you can afford. If you can't afford anything at the moment, that is fine, we understand. Maybe, you could share our collection page, instead? Many thanks 83 https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com...ctpage&utm_source=Facebook&utm_term=XPqbQD75n
Great cause 83. Popped a few quid in. I remember how so many guys killed themselves when the CSA bludgeoned their way into existence. Scarred me for a few years that did.
Thank you, Blunham. You are a gent The way I'm looking at it is... I'm lucky to be here and if by opening a place up here, I can save just one life, then it will have all been worth it for me.
Took me ages to get my "just giving " payment sorted so will look at this tomorrow when am sober ish. I'll hoy a few bob in if its a decent worthwhile cause
Great cause. Could quite well have got me when I was younger and came pretty close on a couple of occasions. Skint at the moment after that clusterfuck of a wedding but will donate when I get out of debt in 2027.
Excellent stuff mate. A few years back i did a thread on suicide. It ran for a lot of pages. The amount of people of this board alone that had been affected by this was frightening. Some of the stories were so sad. Damned if i can find it.
I remember it mate. I remember you looking as though you had been genuinely blown away by it. Then about 6 months/1 year later, I give it a bash for real
I'm humbled Billy, that you are even thinking about making the effort. I know what the last charity collection done to a lot of posters. I blame nobody for not chipping in, I'd just like to say that. I will keep everybody informed all the way about the progress we make with this.
Harder than I thought, mate. I talk openly about what I done, sometimes to casually. Last night I realised it's all been bravado and an act just to show people I'm not bothered about it. I found it hard, but I got through it. I only spoke about mental health and my experiences for about 20 minutes, but I think that I came across well and made some good points. This movement is exploding and Luke is doing absolute wonders. He's got so many famous people/celebs on board with this and you can sense it is just going to take off. Halifax was the first place to open, and I'm desperate to make somewhere in the North East the second place. I have his backing and support to do this as well, which I'm grateful for. We were talking on the phone yesterday teatime and we believe our intervention on an individual, may have already saved one life through what we are doing. The mental health services have also made their first referral for one of their patients to use the group. Amazing feeling. Anything goes for any man who wants to pop in. We will be doing work classes around coping strategies for people who suffer with anger, anxiety, or whatever their condition may be, and many other things, if people want to get involved. Other nights we will have activities organised for the lads, like football etc. It's just about getting lads through the door, who might not even have mental health issues, but just need a break and who can't open up to their mates. Come to the andys man club, because we are all equal. Nobody is judged. #ITSOKAYTOTALK
It sounds like your involvement in this cause is doing you the world of good too mate. That's an incredible turn around you're making in your life 83. Well done mate!!
@Gordon Armstrong Thank you so much, mate. Thanks so much for asking me how I've been away from the forum, I'm sorry I've been withdrawn but I'm starting to see the light now and each day I'm getting better. I'm even eating something every day now. Onwards and upwards
You know that you're very welcome, mate . . . . and you know that I mean what I say in my texts We haven't 'fallen out' then ('cos I've been wondering) ?
