    Master of none.

Just where should Jack Rodwell play, if at all?

Thompson park for the dray and horses preferably.

    ...............

Jack Rodwell has revealed that he sees his long-term future at centre-back and is targeting a permanent switch in positions. The 25-year-old has struggled in Sunderland’s midfield since his £10million move from Manchester City two years ago.

But he has proved his versatility in pre-season, filling in at right-back as well as central defence as he looks to revive his career under David Moyes. Rodwell is happy to play in any position for now but over the next couple of seasons he is targeting a move back to centre-half – his boyhood position.

Moyes gave Rodwell his break as a 16-year-old when the pair were at Everton – and the midfielder believes the Scot is the man to unlock his potential. “Yeah, I think he can,” Rodwell told the Echo when asked whether Moyes can get the best out of him. “I do believe I am naturally a centre-half, but whether he chooses to play me there this season, or if he starts me in midfield, then he knows I can fill those other positions. “That is good for me and the team. “He knows I can fill in at right-back now too. “Hopefully, ideally within the next few years, I would like to step back to centre-half, whether it is this season or not, I am happy to play anywhere for the team. “The manager has played me right-back and centre-back and I have played midfield too. “He knows me well, has known me since I broke through at 16 and I can play those positions and feel comfortable; I was a natural centre-back. “Wherever he wants me to play though, I am happy to play.”

Right-back Billy Jones is expected to recover from a hip injury to be fit for the curtain raiser against Manchaster City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. If he doesn’t make it, though, Rodwell looks set to start. “I have played across the back four during my career,” added Rodwell, who started at right-back in Friday night’s 1-1 friendly draw with Borussia Dortmund. “I have played all across the midfield too – the only positions I haven’t played is up front and in goal!

Yep Jack, can just see him dropping Kone or Kaboul, for you. There's also a new lad for that position as back up.

Yeah you can fill in at right back, anybody can go and stand in that position. You're **** there, though. Deluded sod <doh>

As back up at CB no problem. Kaboul will get injured and we will lose others to ACN. Same in midfield he will be behind Mvila (we hope) Kirchoff, Catts in that role.

He is a decent squad player and that's it at the moment.

So true, but did you see the Dortmund goal? Rodwell dropped Kone like a fat chick with herpes.

I`m not really sure what to make of him.

    A garden bench possibly.

Senegal has already qualified, but Djilobodji has only been capped 13 times. Ivory Coast and Tunisia are yet to qualify.

Bit harsh there - he has some talentand Moyes is the one to rediscover it and give him confidence - a big factor.
I'm not going to put the boot in yet - he could be a vital player this year

Rodders may well make a decent CB he will never cut it in mid-field, and I preferred Josh Robson at full back from what I have seen he looks a real prospect as does Aloso up front, both could be involved in the coming weeks.

I Said when he signed we should convert him back to centreback. Bit late in the day now our back two is strengthened and solid.

I was saying something very similar at the same time and suggesting a run out with the U21 squad to see if he could cut it, even now I would try this out and if nothing else he would provide cover and we might get a fee for him when he does leave, as we could not get rid of him now without cash inducements imo.

Agree we wouldn't shift him. I think he'll be on our books till his contract expires. Last chance saloon which ever position. If you can't find form the the manager that knows you better than anyone there is little hope. I'll be honest. I see lots of wage subsidised loans on the cards for him. Danny Graham all over again. Given up hope on Rodders so if Moyes can get him sorted it will be a pleasant surprise.

I read the top post earlier, and just now I see that Everton has supposedly bid £18m for Kone. I sure hope Rodwell doesn't know something, we don't.

No, I can't spell it either; I just type Dilobodi and then insert the j's.
