On the opening day of the season Jazz has upset a section of Cardiff fans, not by playing poorly, not by lacking effort, but by not doing the Ayatollah. Would you rather him put his head down and play his football to the best of his ability or get embroiled in a situation where he is booed by his own fans and ultimately, probably be forced out of the Club if it continues? http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/new-cardiff-city-signing-jazz-11714867
Slapping your head is not for jacks...sorry Our brains stay firmly in place so there is no need to slap them back in making yourself look like something from the planet of the apes...
Jazz has been well accepted by City fans - up to yesterday. In all honesty it is pretty short sighted of him. He is a good player and most of us were pleased to exchange Malone for him. One small gesture of respect, when requested, would have further endeared him to us. If he cannot do that one, little thing then it must be asked just how committed to the club and fans is he? He is a Cardiff player and would be expected to join in the little rituals that are part and parcel of the club. Next Sunday against QPR at CCS will be interesting. I suspect someone will have a quiet word in his shell like before then, he will join in and over time this will be forgotten. We remember well Zaha also refusing to do it when we played for us against Palace in the Prem. Needless to say he wasn't around much longer. "Played" is actually a false description as he was pretty useless overall. Jazz is much better than that. Of course you Jacks will enjoy a chortle at this as you did when Dimi Dropalot made a few balls ups when on loan with us. Now I don't know if the Jacks have any rituals but if you do and a new player didn't join in or do something else that amount to disrespect, how would you react?
I wonder if he did the Ayatollah when he was playing in our academy before he joined you? I can imagine he would have been keen to be involved at that tme.
I can't think of any rituals we have asking a player to do something specific. We chant "You Jack Bastard" as a sign of respect, but that's about it. Jazz is a solid player who will do well at Cardiff, provided the fans don't get on his back. He's a Swansea boy and it's inviting trouble asking him to do the Ayatollah. In hindsight, perhaps he shouldn't have gone to Cardiff in the first place.
Why is it inviting trouble PGF? He's a Cardiff player now and would have been fully aware of what goes on here from his time, both with us as a youngster, and at Swansea. If he's not prepared to 100% buy in to the rituals and idiosyncrasies of the club then you're right, he shouldn't have come. I hope he can adapt because, as we have seen from his Wales appearances (particularly against Hazard), he is a good player and we can both achieve success if he has the right attitude. I didn't know about your Jack Bastard chant. So when we play you or if we play any ex-Swans and call them Jack Bastards, they must think we are chanting for them.
I wonder what his attitude will be like now h'e allegedly spent 90 minutes being booed by his own "supporters " , can you honestly say that every one at your place slaps their heads ? and if not what type of retribution is handed out to those who choose not to . I'd hazard a guess that he came to your club because he's footballer not as a 50 year old who gets upset because player won't join in some weird ritual .
It might be weird but as a ritual it's part of our club. Surely any new player wants to get the fans behind him? He seems to have a funny way of doing it. Of course you lot are having a field day over this, I wouldn't expect any less. P.S. Thanks for knocking a considerable number of years off my life.
nowt more fickle than a football fan is there really>>>>>>>>>every club has em and yes its fking childish.........stupid fks crying over stupid shi.te ffs.
Richards must have been aware of the head tapping ritual at his chosen new Club, together with the knowledge that expectations would have been high that he would join in, however ludicrous he finds it. Not to have done so was clearly going to alienate him with a large cross section of Cardiff fans'. And so it turned out. Players need supporters on their side, and he has made an error of judgement in not, as they see it, showing respect to the Club, and it's followers. He needs to address that, and now has a lot of work to do to improve his standing, but I am sure he will do whatever is necessary to dissipate the anger that he has caused. If he refuses to follow tradition, he will be in for a rocky ride. Just my opinion. Others are available.
So Zaha didn't do it and wasn't "around much longer" and Jazz didn't do it and gets roundly booed by his own fans - and that seems to be accepted. On that basis you'd be happier to have inferior players because they do this......................
Zaha was just an absolute tosser. He went and saluted the Palace fans, during the game, while playing for us. He was a loaner, just took the money and did sod all to help the cause. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. I'm not saying Jazz is anything like that just that as a newbie he could have shown a bit more respect. You would expect the same from anyone coming to play for the Swans. Respect I mean, not the Ayatollah obviously. That wouldn't go down very well at the Liberty. I think we've done this to death now. Let's see what happens next Sunday.
The sad thing is, Jazz never really was a player for interacting with the crowd at the Liberty anyway. He played his football and got on with his job (as he does with Wales) so it's sad to see him have to put up with a load of crap. If he does succumb, all it will mean is that the bullies have won. We all know he won't mean it, it will just be to appease the boo boys which is a sad state of affairs. Lets hope that common sense and football will win and the lad is allowed to play football.
Whatever anyone's opinion on the ayatollah that's really not the point. If he feels so strongly he's a jack he can't partake in a tiny little ritual/gesture he shouldn't have signed. If he is ready to give everything for us on the pitch then a quick bit of head tapping really shouldn't have been issue he's made it into. My honest opinion is it was naive of him, being a professional involves keeping the fans on side. It was always going to be significant due to his history, he should of known it was coming and he should of handled it much better.
Not as ludicrous as some Jack players doing the swim away to celebrate several hundred grown imbeciles chasing a handful of young kids onto a beach. It's a City ritual which he would have known about and whether it is perceived as ridiculous or not, he knew that by ignoring a request from the faithful, he'd be facing a backlash. He would be advised to just swallow it and tap his head with vigour at Bristol Rovers if picked or come out on social media before the QPR game to explain his side of "Ayatollahgate" I hope he has a great first season after all this brouhaha has died down.
Seems like this thread subject has got more interest than the game itself. Shame that, but also a pity for Richards to start off this way whichever way you look at it. He bought into the club , and as daft as it may be to some, he must have been aware or otherwise extremely naive of what comes with "the territory". With a 3 year contract under his belt, the lad should embrace his new club and its' fans idiosyncrasies for what they are, rather than alienate many in apparent deference to a former employer. I also hope all the fuss goes away and the lad can get on with his game - he'll find it a damn sight easier with the watching fans on his side rather than on his back.
"in apparent deference to a former employer". Has he actually said that he was deferring to a former employer ? I'd like to see the quote if you can post it. Wasn't Cardiff "a former employer" ?
